John o shea is as dull as dishwater. Every interview
I've heard of him he sounds bored. I'd prefer if we could target some one within the league. John Russel and Kevin doherty the obvious choices.

Actually seen on the Derry fans Facebook some one suggesting that we bring back declan devine, fucking hell

Andy Bernard wrote: Sat Nov 16, 2024 11:07 pm Genuine question. Do you think Steve Staunton could manage a LOI team?
Simple answer would be yes but he has been out of the spotlight for a number of years now so would it really generate excitement among supporters (Probably only the Liverpool brigade who also support Derry ;) )

People say JOS is boring in interviews, well so what! Gawd knows what he would be like in the changing room... In his short stint as ROI manager he had bigger names than the likes of Maher, Connolly, McEleney etc etc so I dont think a LOI team would be beyond him...

Everyone thought Higgins was a boring so and so with his interviews but he did have his angry moments both on field and off...

If Derry are to have a genuine "refresh" then the coaching staff needs to be replaced totally... same circus different ring master... We need someone with a whole new perspective and ideas to really shake us up... No point bringing in someone new and have Higgsy or Loghrey banging on in the background with their dated ideas...

Pointing out O'Shea is boring is important because we need someone to motivate players not because we won't someone who will tickle the media. She's players would run through a wall for Duff. Our players were like zombies last season. A dull personality who has never managed a club side and been part of the Ireland setup. We've been down that road before

O'Shea was desperate as Ireland interim manager. I don't know if he'd be better at LOI level.

I think it really depends on what the plan is for the next while, if we have one. Throwing money exclusively at the first team to win a league failed and it's not clear if we plan on doing it again but with a different manager.

There's a good pub debate to be had about whether the Derry job is the biggest club job on the island but I do think it's the hardest. Many managers with bigger reputations, bigger personalities and more experience than Higgins have tried it and have barely lasted a few months. Ultimately Higgins failed too with evidence that we were going backwards.

I don't know anything about candidates outside of Ireland. I'd like to see Paddy get it at some stage and I think Doherty could be tempted. I'd also be interested by Keddy but he may not have the experience yet. I do think there is something in the fact that the only two managers to win an LOI title for us were from the city. Even Kenny couldn't.

If I was looking for a manager I would keep this appointment as simple as possible.

I would be looking at Sligo, Drogheda and Galway and sounding out those 3 candidates.

I would then cast a glance across to the IPL and see if anyone stands out.

Then I would get a shortlist of 2 or 3 max, and do your homework on what we need / want and decide who is the best fit and go all out to get him.

Agree that it's more than a single appointment needed. Until we sort out our off field structures, training etc then many established managers won't come near it.

Does the manager have to come from the LOI merry-go-round? It appears there isn't any other option?

It's a massive football world out there.

No but he’ll need to live locally, speak the language and have an idea of the league. Not fly in/out for each game. That kinda narrows it down if we’re being realistic.

Some one mentioned Higgsy and loughrey early on I was assuming they were gone along with Higgins if not they should.

Careful now, don't want to be accused of online abuse against them.

Apart from Bradley, Kenny and Duff every manager in the league has their agents applying interest. There's no loyalty in football. Money , fanbase no club will compete.

He's been discussed on various threads & different platforms. I was only posting on here to let people know he wouldn't be the new manager

I'm sure you can find that out for yourself if you wanted to, he wasn't on my list to replace Higgins but he was mentioned by others & seeing as this is a thread to discuss the new manager I thought it was relevant to post

Paddy would’ve been a great option but I’d say the club was never interested as we would’ve heard murmurs, and he’s taken the Glenavon job very quickly.

Most clubs at top level are already looking for their next managers even while the current one is still in a job (regardless of how he’s doing). I’d say the next manager could already be lined up or at least deep in discussion

100%. I don't think this situation has come as a surprise to anyone.

We've had since July to start our search.
