Derry City v Sligo Rovers Match Thread

Post by TenaciousDee »

Unsure of the current status of ticket availability but if anyone else does, please post below.

Day of the game and zero conversation on it, like the European ties, I have seen more about the Cup Final than Bohs and Sligo combined. No doubt some of the lack of conversation could be down to nerves.

Sligo have a list of injured players coming into the game. Wilson Waweru in particular will be a big miss for them but John Mahon returned on Wednesday night during the friendly v Celtic.

Question marks on Ben Doherty's availability tonight after going off against Bohs.

Post all predictions, news and reaction and if you can't make the match it is live on RTE, BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105. Drive 105 audio will be used for the audio description service for the visually impaired at the ground, so if you can avail of it contact Rory McCartney at Rory.McCartney@rnib.org.uk

Speaking on Foyle this morning Ruidhri said if we win we go top, if we don't are we out of it, No was his answer to his own question. Anything less than 3 points will be a disaster IMO.

He needs to select the right team and tactics, let's start on front foot and go for it let's play 2 up front and I'd even give young Robertson a start and stop the long diagonal balls to Michael Duffy.

It's a 3pt game, no ifs or buts, if we want any chance of winning this league.

If we get a point or less tonight, the league is over for us, despite what our Manager says.

Could even be construed as another 6 pointer cause if Sligi win they'll move to within 1 point of us.

Go win the cup, leave on a high. Higgins should not be brought back next season. Things will only be worse for him.

1 win in 9 league wins when trying to win a league given the resources he has and the squad he has assembled, is not acceptable.

We might not even finish in the top 4 at this pace which would be absolutely atrocious.

As if we were ever going to win five games in a row. As much as I admire mcmullens work rate, his passing and finishing is awful and has cost us multiple times this season. Don't even get me started on passenger patching.

Cup run has saved Higgins.

Groundhog Day #17

Looking like we’ve done enough to sneak 4th spot.

10 man Sligo (similar to 10 men Waterford earlier in the season) looked the better side tonight.

1 win from 9. Can’t buy a win.

Still a chance to win the league if we do what needs to be done.

Admittedly this needed to be done 30 league games ago.

A very tired looking team with nobody able to generate the energy to creat opportunities. A chance was there but no confidence to take it.

I expect with other teams coming into the picture for the title any team could end up as winners.

A good rest with the youngsters given a chance to place them in with an opportunity to deliver the cup.

Higgins is a bluffer, the sooner he's out of our club the better.

Yet another match we don't turn up the first half. Who's to blame - take your pick. I know one thing we need serious changes on the pitch and on the sidelines.

Do we really think we'll win the last 3 matches when we've won one league match in ten- let that sink in one league win since the end of June.

Lets be honest we are an absolute shambles at the minute.

So angry with that display, again.

Where would you even start? Patching needs run out of this club asap. Didn't try a leg tonight and was rightly taken off. He shouldn't start the cup final either, his work rate is embarrassing.

Then the manager, a top class spoofer as someone said above. Tactically inept who should have been shown the door when we lost to the Magpies. I believe if we had done that, we would have went on to win this poor league. The Sligo manager tonight showed he is on a different level tactically to RH. Even with 10 men they were the better side.

Our last 3 home games, all 1 each draws. The league was presented to us to win it, and still he messes it up. I laughed when so many said we only needed to win 4 of our last 5 games! Are these people even watching us play? We have won 13 all season, but people think we'll win 4 of 5. Not even in your dreams. Look at the goal that got us a point tonight ffs. A fluke. We created so little good chances.

Other players? Well, McMullan has been average this season but started every game. Why?

Why keep giving Robertson 5min at the end of games? Give him a half at least and see what he can do.

I don't know where we go from here. That's the league gone, and I have no fear of anyone coming back to quote me on that. We are shocking. Handed the title on a plate and pissed it away.

Good luck filling 6500 seats next season. Unless there is serious money invested in this team, a lot of deadwood gotten rid of, and that spoofer shown the door, then I fear for the crowds next season.

I expect the Higgins fanboys to be along to say we are still in the running for the double. They must love watching mind numbing football. Why is there so little dissenting voices in the town?
