Derry City v FCB Magpies, Leg 2, Match Thread

Post by TenaciousDee »

Thread for the home tie that will hopefully result in Derry City progressing to the next qualifying round for the Europa Conference League. I heard the Ultras are encouraging fans to arrive early to take part in a flag display prior to kick off. Not sure what the ticket situation is but hopefully the threats from last week of fans trying to sell their purchased tickets are empty.

As usual, news, predictions and reaction here. If you can't attend the game you can purchase the coverage, provided by SolidSport here: https://derrycityplay.com/derrycityfc/games/g/96wqk150

It is also live on BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105.

By the sounds of the manager's pre match interview, there won't be any change in tactics. He doesn't seem to consider that his approach requires changing.

I think it will go to extra time.

The Manager' will probably change before his approach.

https://www.derrycityfc.net/tickets-min/ a limited number of tickets are available as Magpies did not sell out their allocation.

Fans have spoken. Looks like we've sold about 1500 for this one?

Spot on Magspat.

The tickets appear to be selling well and there should be a full house and great atmosphere despite the naysayers, armchair managers, begrudgers, moaners and cryers. Really looking forward to it now and good luck to all above trying to watch it on Solidsport……..

Be cautious, warns Higgins

While they need goals, and have a history of memorable occasions in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium, Higgins has cautioned Derry on not going for the jugular from the opening seconds.

"We've seen how special European nights can be in the Brandywell, and we need them to get right behind us from minute one.

"There is no doubt that we can score goals but we also have to be very mindful that we’re set up right behind the ball when we’re attacking, because they’ve got threats as well.

"We can’t just go gung-ho, we have to attack but with a certain amount of discipline as well, commit bodies forward but be mindful that they have one or two threats on the counter attack."
It's like listening to Southgate. I think the army of coaches and 'analysts' that follow managers around these days need to justify their existence by completely over obsessing about the opposition and talking them up.

I still think it's crazy that we've a limited capacity stadium (circa 2k) and there's still hundreds of tickets remaining unsold on match day. Fans follow their teams all season to look forward to European game and then when they come around they are priced out. Lots of football visitors in the city too and still we can't sell out with reduced capacity. Meanwhile the manager is calling on fans to come along and support their team etc etc. Appreciate the manager doesn't set the prices but its fallen on his shoulders to drum up support for this game. You couldn't make it up... feels like we've scored an own goal.

There are circa 2 and half thousand seats with the reduced capacity. Online sales are now closed. Sounds like a full house to me. I know. Disappointing that for some. But the real fans will be inside the ground tonight. Upacity………..

Still a few hundred tickets remaining which, I agree, is disappointing.

So the real fans will be at the match and the plebs will be watching on tv...?
