I can't see how we can change our pitch anytime soon, so surely it's pointless taking about someone joining us in the Summer window if a new surface is a deal-breaker in the move.

Has the new long term lease for the Brandywell been signed off?

If so, I'd hope we'd expedite the return to a grass pitch asap. Word on the street is that the chairman has already offered last year to pay to change it back to grass, but that the council refused.

It would change the product massively, but would of course mean that a lot of local junior matches would have to be relocated. It could only really be used for Derry and Institute if it was grass.

Timing is the big issue thiough. Our season ends in November and starts in February. I'm no gardener, but I'd guess that's not an ideal time to be laying a new grass lawn. On top of that is the issue that whilst we're not using the pitch during the window, Stute are. So the window in which to change it is going to need some creativity. Presumably the preference would be to do so in better weather, with the fixture list swapped around a bit to give us a run of away games whilst the new surface beds in? Either that and/or a few games in Maginn Park again (though we probably have more ST holders than that ground could accommodate now).

I can't see the council agreeong to shaft Stute just for DCFC. Or for DCFC doing it either tbh. So presumably there is a minium list of current users who have the option to continue under the new arrangement (possibly including Maiden City too, until they get their pitch at Lisneal?),

Shamrock Rovers confirming the signing of John McGovern from Dungannon Swifts.

22 year old striker, recently won the Irish Cup, and scored 14 goals last season.

A profile of player I thought we'd be after - the quality Rovers have at their disposal... I mean we all saw it on Friday past.

Think that deal was done months ago. They mentioned it on the radio immediately after the Irish Cup Final & Liam Beckett wasn't too happy at the news.

I agree its the profile of player we should be starting to target. Owen Elding at Sligo is a player I'd like to see us targeting still only 19 & scoring like he's been in the league for years, whether Sligo would do a deal with us is another thing. When at Larne, Lynch convinced Kenny Bruce to spend nearly £100k on a 21yr old Lee Bonis from Portadown; 3yrs later they more than earned their money back, 2 league titles, European group stages & sold him on for the double what they paid for him

We would probably need to get 1 or 2 of our high earning forwards off the wage bill first but it is absolutely the profile of player we should be looking at.

Agreed. Elding a talent.

We most certainly need to shift some players off the wage bill (I'm led to believe we will), but I would expect incomings over the upcoming summer window.

I just thought with us being limited in terms of European players, we'd have been all over that McGovern deal like a rash.

Expect some activity: https://www.derryjournal.com/sport/foot ... ns-5148840

Idehen & Davenport (who I can’t believe is still on the books) are being shipped out.

It is widely anticipated that Pat Hoban will be going to Galway.

As for incomings, Fankaty Dabo is the right sided free agent referenced in above article. He missed the penalty for Coventry in the play off final, which sent Luton to the Premier League. Troy Deeney did not have good things to say about him recently either. I’m always cautious with these types of boys, but whatever.

Id cash in on

Idehan
Davenport
Ferguson
Harkin
Hoban
Dummigan

I think we need a Rb, Cb, Lb ans Striker/No. 10. If a good gk was available I'd also consider making a move.

Good luck getting financial return on any of those players. Most likely they'll just be taken off the wage bill. I would be shocked if a fee was paid apart from a nominal one for Hoban.

No fees would be likely with the exception of nominal fees for Dummy and Hoban. At a guess I'd say it's close 8-10k per week wages between them

Idehen, Davenport, Hoban, Harkin departing would definitely free up some wages.

I would be happy to give Dummigan to the end of the season to see where he is at, if no luck, move him on.

I think he's talking more about freeing up their wages than getting money for them. If any of them have other clubs lined up its bound to work in our favour as surely we won't have to pay up their contracts

Idehen went on loan to Ballymena as for Davenport he was probably hoping that we'd pay up his contract so he'd be free to go elsewhere & probably negotiate a nice signing on fee for himself too
