Re: New manager
I did not know Higgins personally but though he done all right up to this season nothing personally against the man ,didn't deserve the abuse he was supposed to be getting at the end of the day is only a game no one was more disappointed than me but lifegoes on
,Agiain it that piece in the derry news today he never mentioned the flops he brought from England this year never was asked why many players out of contract wasn't signed up if rumors is to believed MAGHER WOULD have signed new contract but never was offered one.

Re: New manager
TBH from my standpoint it is nothing personal - it's business. Did I enjoy the football - no. Did I think the style of play suited us- no? Did I think we could've done a lot better with the players we had - yes? Do I think we should've won the league - yes? Do I think Higgins stopped us from winning the league and possible double- yes?magspat wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 4:20 pm I did not know Higgins personally but though he done all right up to this season nothing personally against the man ,didn't deserve the abuse he was supposed to be getting at the end of the day is only a game no one was more disappointed than me but lifegoes on

Re: New manager
Very disappointing to see Higgins essentially blaming everyone else - particularly the fans - for how the season turned out. It appears that he has learned nothing from how the season and his job ended if he genuinely thinks the supporters have any credible responsibility here.
Leaders take responsibility. They don't pass the buck or look for scapegoats.

Re: New manager
Sadly he's been making excuses since the summer and then on the odd occasion we got a result he put it up to the fans that were unhappy with them. To use someone else's phrase - bluffer.

Re: New manager
Like most people I did not enjoy the football this season and the ending was poor but I do recognise the achievements that Higgins made in the previous seasons. Those achievements gave us the hope and thoughts that we could win the League this season, how many Derry managers have we had in the past that got us nowhere this position ? We should not forget this, I listened to his interview with Kevin Mc Laughlin and it is clear he ate slept and breathed Derry City during his time here. He will always be a fan and he deserves our thanks. Wishing him all the best for the future.

Did we come close to winning a league again because Higgins was our manager though? Or because of the budget he'd been given ?YorbaLinda wrote: Mon Nov 25, 2024 8:06 pm Like most people I did not enjoy the football this season and the ending was poor but I do recognise the achievements that Higgins made in the previous seasons. I suspect if Duff had been our manager with the same team of players and budget, we'd have had the league wrapped up 4 or 5 weeks from the end.

I think we lost the league because RH was our manager. He, and his fans, are trying to spin it that he got us close.
Had he went after the Magpies defeat, I have no doubt we would have won the league this year.

Re: New manager
To be honest this interview should not have aired. This podcast claims it is independent but it is linked to the Derry journal and obviously clearly the club. With the greatest respect to the Higgins family - there has to be an acceptance that his tenure is now over and we move on. This interview and the post from the brother achieves nothing but portrays the club and fans in a bad light
Had this interview been conducted 6 months or 12 months later - no problem at all.
But this is less than one week after we appointed a new manager.
Surely we need to give the new manager as much support as possible and to try and breathe some positivity back into the club. This interview does none of this.
As I predicted back in September, when Higgins would be sacked - it would be deflected back into the fans, which is absolutely not right.
Suggestions that his family couldn’t attend home games and the fans turned well before the end of the season are rubbish. 25,000 still turned up at the Aviva ? Only at the Sligo home game was their negative vibes. The games before this - Pats home (cup), shels home (cup), rovers home (league), bohs home (league) the fans gsve great support at the end of the games. Dundalk away and Pats away - both games Derry fans travelled in great numbers and gave great support. Bohs away in cup semi - unbelievable support was given.
So I am sorry I do not accept the spin that the Higgins family is putting out. It is not right on the Derry fans who stayed loyal right to the end, despite the rubbish they was served up.
But the club needs to stop this now. The Lynch era has begun, and we must move on.
This interview should not have aired, and I struggle to see where it benefits the club at all ?
We are at at a stage where we are trying to recruit players etc, and instead we have a failed ex manager getting serious airtime and publicity where he highlights bad fans, bad pitch, bad facilities, bad radio commentators, criticises ex players, etc - it is farcical to me to be honest.
He says he is 100% behind the club - if so, don’t do the interview. Simple as. But what are the podcast guys doing in airing it ? Wait 6 months and then yes, no problem, fire ahead, but not now while the new manager is fighting to get players to stay and get new players to stay.
I am 100% sure the new manager is not happy with this interview being played now.

Kenny Shiels kept a dignified silence and let the club move on. The sooner the football is back and we start talking about the new manager the better

Re: New manager
I think the derry media was very pro-RH, and the coverage since our collapse to the season bears this out.
I pointed out before than I don't think the manager was subjected to tough enough questioning about the product that was being served up. Yes we were at the business end of the league, but we were a poor side to watch and many fans were giving out about what we were watching. But sure all was rosey as we were in contention with winning a league. That's all that mattered to some.
Perhaps it's because we are a small town, and too many people know too many people well, but the manager was definitely getting a light touch when it came to how we played. I know a lot of fans were questioning his style of play, his team selections, his signings etc, but I don't think the same questions were being asked by those who had the outlet to do it.

I agree- the only ones that pointed out the obvious were Liam Coyle and Dessie McCallion and you can see what RH thought about that

Re: New manager
I agree with the timing of it being aired as poor... The focus has been taken off Tiernan Lynch becoming the new manager with the outgoing manager berating everyone but himself...
At the end of the day lads remember this... "Managers and players come and go but its the fans that remain"... If the Higgins family choose to stay away then thats their decision... If they were fans then they'd still be there through thick and thin like the rest of us...
