Can you imagine us paying compensation to get the Larne manager and then them appointing Higgins. Presumably in that scenario they'd have to pay us compensation also assuming he was still under contract and receiving a salary?
Hasn't Higgins left us already "by mutual consent" ?

That's doesn't say it's a done deal. It says he's the leading candidate, which earlier links above also said.

Yeah, but what does that actually mean. Neither party will hang the other out to dry. But on what terms was the separation? Anyway, Larne looking for a new manager by the looks fo things and Higgins must be a front runner for that job.

I said previously Tiernan Lynch should be considered... and firmly told on here there is no way he'd consider Derry...

Credit to the board, they identified a target and moved quickly to get him.
I haven't watched Larne much so can't comment on his style but his recent success makes this a pretty exciting appointment in my eyes.
It'll be interesting to see who he brings in with him. You'd imagine he'll target a few players from the Irish league.
Renewed optimism?

I was told the same about Higgins tenure. Ignore them.
We have a new manager with decent managerial experience. That should address any concerns over ST sales.
Fair play to POD for going and getting his man.
Roll on 2025.

Hope so. Makes no sense plunging the depths of the English 7th and 8th tier when there are players on our doorstep.
First signing. Joe Thomson. Fingers crossed.

You can understahd why people would have thought that though. The guy turned down the St Johnstone job only a month ago. That suggests that he was being cautious about whne to cash in on the brownie points he'd earned at Larne, and that he was ambitious and looking for a bigger step up than lower-SPL.
I doubt Derry will add much more to his CV in the eyes of Englsih/Scottish clubs than Larne has tbh. Despite what we think they'll probably see it as a biot of a sideways move. So it is a bit of a curious step for someone who seemed to be looking to take a big step up for his next job.
He's here now anyway, so let's welcome him and see what the next few years bring. Fingers crossed for some interesting football and a bit of much-needed silverware from the Lynch era

And fair play to the club for acting quickly and decisively on it all. It's only 8 days since last season ended for us after all.

The two up top brigade will be happy as he's usually a 3-5-2 man. There's a nice tactical write up in the link below. I wonder if he'll continue with this approach. If so then it'll be interesting to see what he does with Duffy and Doherty.

I appreciate your post Steve. I find this bit curious tho...
"someone who seemed to be looking to take a big step up for his next job."
Isn't this just an assumption made as a result of him turning down St. Johnstone? I don't know if he ever gave an indication that he was looking for a big step up if he left Larne. Maybe he did, I don't honestly know. Or maybe he views Derry as a big step up. Or a challenge. Maybe he does think a League of Ireland title would improve his CV. Or maybe he doesn't want to leave Ireland. I don't know his personal circumstances but a new challenge here might suit his family life. I don't know why he chose to move to us, could just be nothing more than a good financial package! I just hope he is successful.

He's a young guy by managerial standards (44yrs old?). Presumably he's ambitious and wants to manage at the highest level he can. I've yet to hear of any manager in professional football who isn't to be honest.
Maybe he wamts to continue living in NI for some reason - though it did seem like the St Johnstone move was almost a done deal for a while back in September. Which would suggest he's happy enough to move for the right role, and that terms/pay might have been the stumnbling block there.
Is Derry City a bigger job in the grand scheme of things than St Kohnstone is? I honestly think it's irrelevant what you or I think about that - as we're not the ones who'd be considering Lynch for a job in future. I just don't think clubs in England or Scotland - which again, are where ambitious managers from Ireland usually look towards for a bigger job - wil see any huge difference between us and Larne. I honestly think they'll view what he;s doing now as a sideways step really. Wjereas I think they'd have seen St J as a bit of a step up, especially if he managed to deliver anything there.
There is a theory in IL circles that the wheels are starting to come off the team he's built at Larne and that he's now lookking to cash-in on his success to-date and get out before it goes wrong. Only time will tell what he can do at an LOI level, but it's good to have someone on-board who has actually won something of note as a manager anyway.

Pretty worried about this, Higgins would have won the Irish league with a team full of SPL players.
We shall see.

Cheers Steve you make some good points here. I didn't realise the St Johnstone move was almost a done deal, but tbh I didn't follow that possible move very closely. I guess that looking at the facts tell a pertinent tale...he turned down St Johnstone and chose to manage Derry City.
Can I ask, what are Irish League circles? Is is fans who believe the wheels are starting to come off at Larne? Or is that the view of coaches and managers working in the IL? Or maybe the journalists who cover the league? I think the Lynch's have been at Larne for 7 or 8 years. They are defending back to back champions, won the Championship and 4 Co. ANTRIM Shields, and have taken Larne into the vroup stages of Europe. Have the whhels come off because they are 14 points behind Linfield? They lost 1-0 to Linfield last week...a 1-0 reverse of that result would have seen them 8 points behind Linfield with 3 games in hand.
We have seen bigger sides than Larne struggle to balance a European campaign with the domestic league, and Larne have a very, very small squad to try to cope with that. I'd say anyone saying the wheels have come off at Larne have a very limited understanding of football and the work required to maintain success with relative limited resources. Larne have had financial backing but they still have an upper limit to what they can achieve.

I think moving from IPL into LOI is a step up not a step sideways. Just look at the teams, the managers and the players playing in the LOI. If he can deliver some success at Derry then surely it's a stepping stone into a higher position job in Scotland or England. Opportunities that are unlikely to arise as a manager of a IPL club regardless of how successful they are.
