Boyce as well.

Excellent right back, money spent replacing him could easily have been spent in the other more pressing areas.

No harm to the fella but at this stage he's a squad player. Hard to know what his best position is. No point in keeping fellas that aren't pushing for the first team and he's at an age where he needs to be playing regularly

Rumours a right back signing- if so it's a disgrace as Boyce is one of the best right backs in the league and got dumped when Dummigan came back though his best position is centre mid. The rumours of a falling out seem to be true- heard from someone close to him in Ramelton that him leaving was a strong possibility.

Boyce seemed to get blamed for the goal against Rovers at home which I thought was unfair but there was always the nagging feeling that he had play his way into the team like Coll.

Every time we signed a midfielder it felt it was because he knew he wanted to play Dummigan at right back.

Reminded me a bit of how Eddie had to force his way into Keely and Fenlon's teams.

Ronan 'was' one of the best right backs in the league, he hasn't been great in the past 12 months. Going forward he has been better, defending, not great

Have we signed a midfielder called Marsh? There's a guy in Cyprus but has a year left on contract.

I thought he had improved defensively in the last year. Start of 2023 I thought he was a weak link but he got stronger as the season went on. This year the chopping and changing on the right has left us exposed and he has been singled out. He rarely gets the support from the player further up the line, in my opinion.

Lots of rumours flying about but i'd say we will be bringing in a few players this week. Journal podcast mentioned a few players could be in this week. In reality we need a right back, centre half and a central midfielder. Right back will ensure than Dummigan can play in the holding role in midfield, centre back will slot straight in alongside Connolly and we need a central midfielder to cover the squad for the loss of Harkin & McEneff

Maybe your right, McMullan is maybe not as defensively minded and that leaves Boyce exposed. injuries haven't helped him and the fact that Dummigan is really strong there didn't help him this season. His goals from right back maybe elevated him to a level that people expect all the time and when the goals dried up and a few defensive issues he was picked out as being weak. I'd expect 2 defensive players to come in soon.

To me, Boyce is similar to Wan-Bisakka at Manchester United. A good, dependable defensive RB who offers little going forward. He scored a number of goals a few seasons ago but this was always likely to be an outlier. In order to improve, we need full backs who can play both ways. Hopefully he sticks around but bringing in another player who may be better is not a bad idea.

I would question how much impact new signings are likely to have at this stage of the season though with only 11 games remaining. Anyone coming in would need to be a clear improvement on what we have.

We also have a number of players coming to the end of theie contract, so potentially these are players who may make a bigger contribution next season.

Hopefully whoever is brought in will actually be fit to play and have an impact on the remaining games.

Unlike Davenport.

Re Boyce Analysed to death here. BUT To a huge number of us an excellent player in every way who also could cross and score Quite valuable would we not say. Ever watch him show for the ball while the diagonal to Duffy. Ad nauseam from the keeper and Connelly then Shane started. He was ignored Duffy always had the great Coll in support and Doherty to link to Boyce was given a collection of so called wingers who could not play there esp the undroppable Kelly . We have shifted a lot of Right sided players in recent years is this not true ?//Dommican came with great credentials as a midfielder {I may be wrong tho Correct me if so]. he carried early injuries early on which meant we didn’t see him dominate and a posse of mid fielders was lined up. He never was the full back Boyce was and his appearances there of late showed up great flaws yet moving into mid field we saw the huge difference
Point Boyce excellent no 2 if let go ? Another ? Mark about the coaching insight of our team

This is mad. Most know my English team would be Derby County and he was very well thought of at the club. He was part of Schteve McClaren's side that lost at Wembley then returned a few years later on a permanent deal. Was always reliable at RB and CB then he was stabbed during the recommencement of the 2020 season after lockdown. He returned the next season but wasn't the same player as he hadn't physically or mentally recovered. Fingers crossed it works out for all involved.

Dee,

When you say 'mad' do you mean in a good or bad way😀

If Boyce is being forced out, then this is a total disgrace - by a manager who will likely go at the end of the year anyway.

A brilliant local player, consistently good, scores goals and an excellent defender.

If he leaves, most teams in Ireland will want to sign him.

I am quite concerned here, that when Higgins goes, he will leave the club in a mess

Boyce, Porter, Jackie and McEnuff all forced out - no doubt Shane, Coll & Todd will be next.

Is there a pattern developing here with local lads ?

Patching and Diallo can play the 'homesick' card at anytime and return to England, likewise for the two Scots and no doubt Maher and O'Reilly will want to return to Dublin in the near future too, as Dublin players playing for us, tend to stay 1-2 years at most.

Then that it leaves stripped very bare, if all the good local lads are gone also.

More unbelievable. I really liked him at Derby and I really hope he has recovered mentally and physically. Still 31 and he could be a leader, which is something I feel we are missing in our starting 11.
