Jacob Davenport
Ahead of KO in Belfast we have announced the arrival of former Man City youth graduate, Jacob Davenport, who started 3 games for Morecombe last season. Played as a midfielder most of his career he played along the back line in most of his sub appearances with Morecombe.

Re: Jacob Davenport
Those statistics are deceiving. At Morecambe he only started three of those 26.

Defensive midfielder?
Do we really need another?
Attacking midfielder out of the question?

We do need players into that area. A player who plays deep isn't always a 'defensive midfielder' . Fats can't be relied upon. It will allow Patching to push on and Dummigan to play right back. We also have players coming to the end of their contract.Keyser Soze wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 6:06 pm Defensive midfielder?

The info on him says he has either been a defensive midfielder or a defender during his career.Nige92 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 6:19 pmWe do need players into that area. That to me says he isn't going to come to us and suddenly become an attacking midfielder. You can't just change your mindset if you've been defensively minded all your career.
Unless manager has ideas to play him out of position.

Hasn't kicked a ball yet folks. Probably best to see what the lad is a player. We've a few out of contract in November and won't be many available then in England.

Feels like a position we don't really need and maybe doesn't bode well for Harkin long term. But if he improves team, hope he does well.

Re: Jacob Davenport
Good to get new bodies in but i'm also weary after recent signings like Mullan who arrived last summer and needed 6 months to get match fit.
So is this lad ready to play, is he match fit and ready to start or is there any injuries or backstory that we are not being told?
Also, what position is he being brought in to cover? If he's a DM are we preparing the the departure of O'Reilly (who's been our best, most consistent player) or will we use him as a utility player to fill in around the back and middle as needed. Ie. A squad player?

Re: Jacob Davenport
We need to give the guy a chance to show what the can do lads.
Broadly speaking Higgins has done a good job in the transfer market for us, and has bought few duds (if any?). The oe blemishs has probably bee Colm Whelan, but it was always going to be a gamble takig o a player wiht a major injury. Compare with previous managers who went for a scatter gun approach re signings and we ended up with all sorts of ranndom journeyme who barely lasted a season.
Danny Mullan took a while to come good, but has now become a scorer of vital goals for us. We just need Kelly to live up to his potential and show what the manager sees in him (or move him on). I'm looking forward to seeing what Davenport cann do for us. I see Belfast Live have also identified the other 2 trialists who played at the Crusaders game as well - one of whom sounds very interestinng

2. Akentunde
3. Cian Kavanagh
