Another point is an astro surface will never last as long as a well maintained grass pitch

Getting involved with this could be worth the bus fare to the Board.
Wouldn't hurt if a few fans went along and vented their spleen about the Brandywell as well :
Have your say on future sports facilities in your area……

Re: Brandywell Stadium Development
From the Belfast Telegraph article, Sean Barrett is quoted as saying:
Will the pitch not be council owned? Why would DCFC be allowed to rent out the pitch on on-match days in a council owned facility? Would it not be the council who stand to gain from any of the supposed financial benefit that 3g pitches bring? Or is the pitch leased out to DCFC for the full year who then hire it out to others?"We will also have a new 3G pitch which we feel is the way forward. It will be top of the range and will give us the opportunity to use the pitch on non-match days and rent it out, providing additional income.

Can only guess that the club has a lease on the whole set up, and then rent it out themselves.rodgers wrote:From the Belfast Telegraph article, Sean Barrett is quoted as saying:

Not sure how that would square with the other football users of the Brandywell though e.g. the D&D.

On a more positive note, the Glentoran Stand will be locked up on Friday night and the telephone engineers were in today removing all telephone lines. Slow it maybe but we can see the light at the end of a very long tunnel.

I don't see how knocking down parts of the ground is a positive when nothing is being built. Even thought it hardly seems possible in a few weeks time the brandywell will be a bigger shithole than it is now.

lorcan Doherty was taking pictures for individual fans who stood beside the old stand tonight probably for old times memory/sake
He may have been charging for them!!!
So it appears the bulldozers will finally be in within 2 weeks and it's farewell the glentoran stand at last!

Could we have a photo of a supporter, if still living, who was in the stand when first used at a Derry match..? And give him/her a lift in the dozer to start the demolition.bilco wrote:lorcan Doherty was taking pictures for individual fans who stood beside the old stand tonight probably for old times memory/sake

So much history in that stand and countless stories to be told. Great opportunity for the Club to get a bit of PR from it but I doubt it will happen.
You'd think the Journal at least would dig out the archives and get a few photos out

Re: Brandywell Stadium Development
more hot air about the brandywell in the journal today, front page headline says council to spend 30 million on projects inc the brandywell then when you turn to the article it says council to spend 20 million on projects
