2035 Womens World Cup

Announced today that the 4 UK associations are trying to host the 2035 women's World Cup :

If they win the hosting, you'd have to think/hope that by then the Brandywell will be easily both the biggest and the best football stadium in NI apart from Windsor. Which would put us in a good stead as a potential location. Balanced against that is the fact that NI might only get one stadium/venue as part of any successful bid, and/or they might try to use both Windsor and Casement.
My fear would be that they'd only go with genuinely big stadia, and turn their noses up at 8,000-odd seats (plus - would we have all the Category 4 stuff around media VIPs etc by then anyway?). So I fear we wouldn't even be at the races.
Anyways - one to keep an eye on (hosts chosen by June of next year).

Its long time away but at the same time just around the corner...
I've always said the Showgrounds end of the ground offers us some serious opportunities with very little phsyical constraints (assuming that the doggy-men can be relocated). I envisage a large mixed use stand offering 2,500 to 4000 depending on configuration.
There exists an opportunity to hit 10k if the need arises and the appetite and funding is available. I think as the 2nd City then it certainly offers the local Councillors another photo opportunity to get excited about and I think Casement wont happen.

If the Irish govt were prepared to hand the GAA 50m euro of shared island unit money at short notice for Euro 2028 and beyond, you would think they might consider putting something in for something like this.

The Irish Gov were happy to fund Casement because it's hand in glove with the GAA. The thought of that money (or any money) making its way into 'soccer" circles would not have the same level of support.

An 8,000-seater stadium won't be considered for a WWC game. No point discussing the merits of funding.

Mention of "the doggy men" on this forum again.
How much power they have for so few of them.
Listened to a piece on the radio today asking if the bans that are happening in other countries willever happen in Ireland.
Guy from the greyhound industry got his ass handed to him in the debate, when he was presented with the huge fatality rate of the dogs, plus the euthanasia of substandard dogs, plus the over inflated figures of how many people the industry actually employs.
Hopefully it's an industry we will soon see the end of here, and which should free up the massive grants and subsidies it gets from the government for such a small 'sport' by attendance figures.

I see it's being reported that stadia for this tournament require a minimum of 20,000 seats, which means we'll get nowhere near hosting it.
Even Windsor is currently too small, & needs an additional 1,500 seats - which it will presumably get. And/or this could reignite the whole issue of London putting some money towards Casement.
