2025 Fixtures

Next week the fixture list for the 2025 season will be published. We already know that we will not face either Shamrock Rovers or Bohemians as they will open their league campaign in a fixture at Lansdowne Road.

In the last decade or so it has been rare to see us start at home. Last season was the first year since 2019 (v UCD) that we did and even before 2019, you have to go back to 2013 when we faced Sligo Rovers in the season opener at home. Personally I just hope it isn't a trek to Cork.

Something I pointed out in the car stuck in the traffic after the final, we will play (unless the EA Sports Cup returns) 3 less Monday games as a result of not qualifying for Europe. The FAI in the last few years on three Mondays pair European competitors before the June break to make up for missing fixtures in the month of July. That hopefully means we avoid Tallaght on a Monday night so we can take a good travelling support. We will still need to play on three bank holiday Mondays though (Easter Monday, May Day and the June Bank Holiday).

Where do you fancy for matchday one and what fixtures are you looking forward to?

Shels at home would be my preference. Think if we are away & avoid Cork or Waterford then we'll take a good following which seemed to have been the case in recent years.

I also had the same thought that not playing in Europe means less Fri-Mon games but then came the reality of no European trips to look forward to, hopefully the less Fri-Mon games helps us in a bid to return to the top 3

If the new stand is ready in time, I think a home game v Pats would get the next biggest away crowd available (with an increase in the away allocation) and a good chance of a capacity crowd of whatever the new capacity will be. Pats would also play more entertaining football than Shels.

No reason why the ground shouldn't be ready in time for the start of the season (?). The new stand is making good progress at the moment, and a few friendlies late Jan/early Feb should test it out and get its certs sorted.

There's definitely rumours doing the rounds in the town that it won't be up and running for the 1st game, which would be a major blow imho.

Come the first game, the town will be buzzing. Demand will be high, people will want to see the new stand etc. Should it not be open and we have a bad start, perhaps the interest might fade quickly among many casual fans.

Let's hope it's open on time.

Simple answer is to postpone home games for a month, say, and have the first couple of fixtures away... Shamrock Rovers had to do it a couple of seasons ago... Didnt do them any harm...

I get where people are coming from saying it is a tough start. Pat's Away, even on a Monday was always going to be tough and away to $h€l$ opening day is never a guarantee win but our three home games you'd hope we were good enough to claim at least 7 points. Had we teams like Rovers, Pat's and maybe Sligo at home in that window I would have my doubts, but barring Galway, we had a good record over the others last season home and away. I think the fear of this start lies not only with the question of how the new manager will start but also hard to look ahead with our squad not fully assembled. Come the end of January we may all be a bit more confident.... Although, it could go the other way.

It's a competitive league and all the mid-table teams, us included, will be looking to go one better than last season. I think every game is tough for mid-table teams. That's the reality of not being one of the strongest teams.
