4th Place finish

We’re now fourth in a ten team league. 55 pts with 1 dead rubber game remaining.
Just a reminder for those that still have their head stuck in the sand.
So do we rest the squad for our final game to avoid picking up injures ahead of the cup final?

You could do that or try and win in case Pat's slip up and we sneak 3rd- how it could've been so much different if we won either the bohs or Sligo home matches

You criticise the manager for a negative approach to games, but you want to throw this game at home to Shels?

"I think people are raving mad if they seriously think we can overtake Rovers having started bottom of the league within 3 seasons."
Your prediction at the start of the season.

Just a reminder.

My prediction was 100% spot on.
We’re not overtaking Rovers, Pats or Shels.

Top 3 wins.
Derry lose and draw a blank.
Utterly predictable.
Time to sack him before we throw everything away.

I want to thank every single board member for bringing the title back to the Brandywell.

Their clearly not playing for him. And if they are. That's even worse. Either way should mean he can't stay in the job

2nd best again tonight, with the guts of our first team on.
Finished 1 win above Galway. Compare the 2 budgets.

If Drogheda win the cup we are in big trouble.

What could have been, it was there for us this year but we couldn't do it. Shelbourne deserved champions.
Hopefully with a new manager and a big clear out we will improve next year.

It simply doesn’t add up.
No rush finishing off that new stand unless something changes.
No Europe to entice players next season is unthinkable. It can’t be allowed to sleep walk into that game.

Its the long goodbye. Even if we win the cup it's over for Higgins. Both players and supporters are bored.

Derry must have the highest Kleenex sales in the world.
Alex Ferguson took him 7 years before he won the league and they were whinging about him up to that point.
What if the board had listened to the those who know better, on the terracing, they’d probable still be cycling through managers.
Stephen Kenny got out before he was pushed - dumped out of Dunfermline and Shamrock Rovers by panicked boards, then went to Dundalk and collected a load of trophies.

So are you saying we should keep RH for more years?
As for the season overall, the fans of the manager will still talk about a potential double. They talk about what could have been whereas what really matters is what actually happened.
What actually happened is that we finished 4th, 8pts behind Shels. Well out of it. And only 1 win above Galway United. Could you imagine the disappointment if we had needed to win tonight to win the league? We were 2nd best again.
And now relying on a cup victory to stop one almighty disaster at the club. If we were to lose the cup final, I think the aftermath will dwarf what we lost after being dumped out by an amateur team in Europe.
There is some pressure now to perform in the Aviva and have something to show for the season, and guarantee Euro football, which is what every top Irish side now has to aim for. That's where the money is.

You couldn't be watching us play this last 2 years if ye think we should keep him.

I don't think there is even an option now but to sack him. The club has to come first. Even season ticket holders are staying away now and there will be another 2.7k to shift.
We were challenging up to last week and ended up 8 points behind Shels. What a monumental collapse we have seen in the last 12 league matches- 11 points. If that was Roddy Collins/Kenny Shields/Devine etc they'd be out.
People on about closing the gap on Rovers- Shels have just sprinted past everyone this season to overtake Rovers. Goes to show what a decent manager on a lower budget can do.

Alex Ferguson won a major European trophy before he went to United - what team did Higgins manage before he came here. He has a massive budget the past two years and this year has been a flop. This season there is no evidence of progression in the league- lower points, lower position, falling further behind the winners, boring football, won 14 matches from 36 games etc. A cup win now doesn't gloss over how bad this season has been.

We are regressing each year. Look.st the points tallies, results and performances. We are limping into a cup final with a handful of wins in 5 months
Most worrying thing about last night was the team he turned out and the performance we got. Make no mistake he was trying to win that game. He didnt play the younger boys nor put them on after 60 mins nor did he take the Duffys etc off.
The saddest thing for me is that in 27 years, this was our best chance of a title given the standard of the league and the investment in the playing squad. Above all our recruitment let us down. With Patching gone, Higgins will struggle to identify players given that we either signed his muckers or went on Darren Gibsons recommendations (i.e., wisdom). Some of the coups we recruited, I.e. Oreilly, Maher, and Whealan, were all Rennies' influence.
