PhD research

Hi Everyone,
I am a PhD candidate at Dundalk Institute of Technology. I am currently researching the media and its coverage of League of Ireland. I am looking for participants to discuss the topic of media representations of League of Ireland. This will be a discussion on the role of the media in all its formats and variations, regarding the league, and how it is represented, also covering themes of identity and culture, discovering supporters opinions on how they feel they are represented within the media.
I am looking for around 6-12 Derry City supporters to be involved in a focus group, date yet to be confirmed, hopefully sometime in July, in Derry, at an agreed location between participants, where supporters feel comfortable. I was curious if anyone within the group would be willing to help in this request, and if anyone is willing to participate. send me a private message on here or an email at brian.martin@dkit.ie
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Hello Brian,

Any joy with this?

If not, you may have better luck if you move it to an online group meeting on TEAMS / ZOOM / GMEET etc?

Just a thought. All the best with it.

Hi,

After initial interest, it has went fairly quiet. Thanks for the feedback. It was suggested by my supervisors to try face-to-face. But, I may have to try a different approach. If it was online, would it be something you'd be interested in?

Brian

Not sure how much traffic this site gets any more? Seems to be a relatively small number of regular posters on it these days.

Perhaps it might be better reaching out to Derry City fans on FB, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok etc? (Maybe you already have, I don't use those sites).

I have tried in a couple of the groups/sites suggested. It had limited success, interest has died down. I might try a couple of other groups/sites. Just wondering if it would gather more interest if it was moved online. Thanks for the advice. I'll have a rethink and maybe a different approach. If you or anyone you know are interested, give me a shout.

I think moving it online might bring more success Brian. If it was and the times/dates suited then I'd be interested in taking part.

Ok, that is interesting. I get in touch with the others, and try and figure out a date and time online that suits. Is early evening ok most days? Just so I can figure out what suits all parties?

It gets more than you think because you can browse the board without having to login so there are non registered viewers all the time. If you want to comment on topics then you have to register to do so.

In here gets a more reasoned response from supporters compared to the likes of some groups on FB where its a free for all at times with people who dont even attend matches...

Hi all,

I posted previously about a focus group regarding PhD research. Just to state that I have a room booked for the 18th July between 4-6:30, just before the European match, at Magee campus of Ulster University. If anyone else is interested, send me a PM on here or an email at brian.martin@dkit.ie. The topic is mainly to focus on the topic of identity and representations within League of Ireland media coverage, and also the wider media landscape regarding league coverage. If anyone has strong opinions on the topic, this will provide an opportunity to express.

All the best,
Brian
