$h€l$ vs Derry City Match Thread

Post by TenaciousDee »

Kick off tomorrow is 5pm.

Will Hoban start? Will we see Patrick McEleney, Ben Doherty or any of the other absentees back in the team? Can we get back to winning ways? All discussion, predictions and reaction here.

If you can't make the match it is live on LOITV, BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105.

Huge game for us tomorrow.

Lose it and the league title is, imho, gone after 8 games. The manager will be under massive pressure.

Hoban needs to start, don't see any reason why he wouldn't, unless he is injured. We need to get a shot on target at least. Was he carrying a knock on Friday night, or was he rested because we had 2 games in 3 days and the manager thought we'd beat Galway without him?

As for McEleney, don't really think it matters at this stage whether he plays or not. He is a bit part player in our team over the last couple of seasons, and his influence is greatly exaggerated. He's not a match winner, no matter what we continue to be told. He appears to be a permanent crock now, and he doesn't look like he'll ever be a regular fixture in the team.

Shels are 2/1 to beat us, which is very generous given both teams form of late. My only hope is that we often play better away, and when the odds are against us.

On Drive 105 today the commentators are Michael Kealey and James O'Toole and pre-match I will be chatting with Shane McEleney, RTE's Alan Cawley and I will be previewing the latest edition of Derry Nostalgic with Mick Neville.

Shels have been very impressive this season so far. Duff getting the most out of the players he has. They've become hard to beat!

I can see this being a real struggle and low on chances. If it's the same side as Friday then I don't expect much.

Shels or a draw.

Shels got to a cup final, then consolidated their position in the top 4 last season and are now top.

Duff showing the rest how it’s done and not always with cash either.

Hes a credit to the league and the more competitive teams the better.

But sure he wasn’t injured… signed Hoban put all the eggs in one basket with someone who is injury prone like half the squad… we were told Hoban a Kelly were the missing part….. Kelly is up their way the worst player I’ve seen. Absolute turkey… let better players leave than we have in squad

We're fairly pathetic as an attacking force. So few chances created. Completely lacking a player than can cause trouble at the edge of the box.

Respectable result, a shame that it comes off the back of Friday's performance

Lots of the ball but not really threatening with it. Typical of many of our games under Higgins.

However, this is not surprising when we don't have (or deploy) a 2nd striker at the club.

Said early on in the season everything hinged on Hoban staying injury free otherwise we're done.

Level on point with Rovers who now have a game in hand over us...

Awful pitch
Awful game
Awful football
Can't remember us making a chance
By time this side comes back(if it does )
Even Europe will be gone
It's easy to believe the hype
Believe your eyes
We're an ageing bang average side !!!!!!

We are not a bang average side, we are an excellent side plus Daniel Kelly who is very badly coached.

No shots on target. Again.

How much are we paying Higgins, Hoban, Duffy, McEleney, Patching, McMullen etc to have no shots on target in 180 minutes of football.

Lots of possession in the first half but didn't really look like scoring.

Signing only two new players with our injury record was always going to come back and haunt us.

Believe what you want
But I believe what I see
No pace in defence
Or Mf
Wingers who run up blind alleys
And one striker of note
Who's now injured
Rebuild incoming
As for d Kelly haven't talked to one person who thought it was good business
Think it's going to be a long year but il be there
Let's hope Phil doesn't get bored with it

Anyone with eyes could see we were short on numbers and quality this season. Others will tell you performances don't matter either only results.

The Classic Higgins result 0 O. Great GOD The “ modern ‘ FOTBALL MANAGER ?
I responded to the loss of 6 points against the vv poor Bohs and Galway by claiming a point against a worse side the fans need to understand I signed crocked players. And dud players and boys who just can’t play so 0 0 is a good result We the fans aren’t mugs Higgs although travelling away in numbers to Dublin maybe we are. ??? Mc Jannet is not a midfielder Kelly is not a player. Mullan is …… I’m lost Patching shows up once in a while 1 shot on target Connolly could have played c back on his own against this lot So bring on another c back when we needed a goal Welllllllll😫but 0 0 is your beloved result
The league is effectively handed over so go quietly

It was a hard fought game but a poor one.

Neither side very good and both very dull and negative. Only entertainment came from watching Hegarty and Joey O'Brien have a go at each other.

Thought there was space in midfield but not used. And playing McJannet at left wing back as pointless as when Devine played him in central midfield.

I like McMullan but think he could put the ball in a bit earlier at times. Having said that he usually only has one up front to try and hit. I think Mullen has a bit of technical ability but just looks totally lost a lot of the time.

A nil nil today and three points against Dundalk and he will have kept his job for a while yet.
