Shamrock Rovers v Derry City - Match Thread

Post by Nige92 »

Rovers game at home to Drogheda is called off due to snow. Gives them an opportunity to rest over the weekend while we play a significant game.

Mother nature is against us!

Would love to see us shock everyone and start against Rovers , how we finished against Pats . We are hard to contain when we move the ball quickly and attack .. It worked in Europe and worked against Pats late on ...
Mc Mullan changed the game ...Conolly was solid .
Hopefully lessons will be learnt from our over dependencet on back passing .
Big one tomorrow night .

Tonight on Match Night Live on Drive 105, Michael Kealey and Dermot Liddy provide full match commentary from Tallaght, whilst I build to kick off from Derry. My guests this evening include Mikhail Kennedy, Institute and former Derry City Player; RTE/Virgin Media/Off The Ball Pundit and former Rovers defender, Graham Gartland and current City Winger, Daniel Kelly. I go behind the scenes to introduce our listeners to Paul Doherty, our studio producer, and Derry City Legend, Gary Beckett, gets ‘Derry Nostalgic’ with me as we discuss the 1997 Irish International Soccer Tournament and THAT Celtic game.

Broadcasting live from 7pm on 105.3FM locally, online and on DAB. #SupportCommunityRadio

I can absolutely see us trying to match up with Rovers for this one. Without Farrugia they're lacking serious pace and in Byrne they're missing their key creation threat. However when we've had joy in the past, we've went with more of a 4-3-3 to push our wingers up, forcing their wingbacks back.

I would like to see something like this.

Maher

Boyce, Connolly, Todd, McJannett

O'Reilly, Patching

Mcmullan

Kelly, Hoban, Duffy

It won't be easy and we'll likely be on the back foot but with Kelly, McMullan and Duffy on the pitch, we'd have enough ball barriers with pace to cause them trouble on the break.

If I am honest, so would I. However, I feel we have a chance.

Enjoyable game so far, end to end. We've probably had the best of the chances but Rovers posing the bigger threat imo.

Two areas of concern: the pace of our defence running towards our own goal and Doherty at LB.

We're certainly in this game and based on the first half, we could get a winner

Sloppy.

That’s why they are Champions and we aren’t.
