Because we have Harkin, Diallo, Patching, O’Reilly, Dummigan, Fats, McMullan, Kelly and Duffy for the positions he could play. And that’s being generous ……good as young McLaughlin is, he wasn’t getting in before any of these.

Half or more of those players are not competing with Evan for a place in the team. Nevertheless, the best thing for him now is game time. Not sat on a bench watching games or getting 15 minutes every fortnight.

At his age and ability he's got it all ahead of him and could return to be a first team regular in the future. All young players will struggle at top teams for the same reasons.
