Sounds like the plans for the new stand behind the goal were flying until NI Water objected to it. What the hell would they be getting involved for????

Water capacity may be a concern for them and may feel that the lack of infrastructure could lead to dirty water flowing through the street. The objection could be easily dealt with if the developer can convince them they have a solution to their fear. These happen all the time and can be resolved, but we may have a delay in works.

It’s an objection pending further information. It’s normal procedure with many planning applications of this nature. The application is still progressing towards a positive conclusion but a solution is required to address waste water. Careful not to believe everything you read on Facebook or other fans forums.

NI Water is one of a number of statutory consultees on applications. This is just normal procedure.

They're just doing their job. Best to wait and see what transpires as this works its way through the process.

Not quite. Still a few other issues to resolve... but it's a big step forward and enables the Club to start preparations.

Derry-Strabane has the highest occurence of officer's planning recommendations being over-turned at committee stage of any council in NI. So just because something is recommended for approval in Derry doesn't mean it will actually get passed by the planning committee.

Though in this case it will, as no-one will dare vote against it

That's being paid for mostly by the council itself, with £12m coming from Westminster's levelling Up Fund.

There was nothing to stop Derry council and club) making an application for stadia to that fund. Coleraine did (unsuccesfully in the last round, but they'll try again) to turn their Showgrounds into the North West Regional Stadium So if not much is coming Derry's way it's our own fault for the type of projects we're proposing.

I'll keep on saying it - we should be working with the council, Department for Infrastructure and other relevant bodies/stakeholders to create a mixed-use, multi-sport, civic/regional stadium at Templemore - where the stadium has the other aspects of the complex built into and around it. Though sadly it seems our club is determined to push ahead with the creation of a Brandywell that we won't be able to use in Europe. Madness.

Superb news for the club.

Tickets should be much more readily available once the new terrace is built, with probably few games selling out any more. And it'll finally give us a sense of how big our regular active fanbase is at the moment.

With lots more tickets to shift for every game, hopefully the club will essentally freeze prices now for quite a few years (including for European fixtures).

With away fans due to be moved to the opposite side of the Southend Stand, hopefully Brandywell pride and the ultras will move to the new terrace. Having songs being led from the middle of the 2 main stands, rather than in the corner of one, should provide a good boost for the atmosphere.

Can't wait to see this new stand in operation nnext year.

This is really positive news and well done to everyone involved. It will be a real and lasting legacy for Phil Doherty. We are lucky as a club and supporters to have such a generous and passionate benefactor and there are exciting times ahead.

Does anyone know if the pitch will have to shift towards the showgrounds?

From the submitted plans it looks like the pitch will stay where it is, also it's currently centred on the players entrance of the Mark Farren so to shift it would offset that symmetry.

I think the pitch stays where it is.

I have seen some comments online that the pitch will also be partially upgraded (but still artificial sadly) but have not been able to see anything confirming this anywhere.

Would it be feasible to build any sort of a terrace at all on the other side?

Paddy Simpson (Director) spoke of the developments on Radio Foyle this morning. Cost will be around £2 million, funded by the club (POD). Hopeful it will be completed around May/June 2024.

The most important thing for me is the new area will incorporate safe standing area, which can revert to seating, similar to Celtic Park for European fixtures. Capacity will be around 6k and hopeful that we will be able to use the stadium for longer in Europe I.e for Tobol fixtures
