Derry City v St. Patrick's Athletic FAI Cup 2nd Round Match Thread
Tickets for this game on August 20th are now available to purchase for season ticket holders https://www.derrycityfc.net/2023/08/tic ... s-fai-cup/
On a side note, had anyone else noticed in recent weeks it was announced that the FAI Cup winners from this season will qualify for the Europa League next season? Thought could mean two qualifying rounds minimum in more than one contest.
Anyway, this game will be live on LOITV (Unless RTE schedule a broadcast), BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105.

I missed that announcement Dee. Do you have a link? That would be a huge, additional incentive.
I assume that EL place goes to the 2nd placed team should the league winners also win the cup?

Dee, I had another look. I believe the potential EL place for the LOI is due to come in for the 25/26 season. It is also contingent on Ireland placing in the Top 33 coefficient for the 23/24 season, which is on a knife edge at this point.

Nige I can't remember where I read it but it was in the last two weeks and it was as I scrolled through Twitter or something. I did see an account call Irish Co-efficient that seems convinced the cup winners this year enter the URL next season (24/25).

I've read the same thing but it wouldn't come into effect until after next year. The winners of the FAI Cup in 2024 will enter QR2 of Europa Conference League in 2025 provided Ireland maintains their spot in the top 38 by end of June 2024. If they somehow win the battle (which is pretty close) between 4 or 5 countries to get a top 33 spot then the FAI Cup winners in 2024 will enter the Europe League in June 2025TenaciousDee wrote: ↑Tue Aug 08, 2023 11:55 am Nige I can't remember where I read it but it was in the last two weeks and it was as I scrolled through Twitter or something. Eugene, would the 7.38 train be a slight improvement if no added time?

Kit yes looked at it too Just much longer With son driving I can be home in 90 mins now with new road Son can’t go this Sun but keeping all options open Extra time and pens as last night plus the difficulty of getting a lift then to train all factored in lol lol, Think I’ll be ok for grandson and I thanks for your text Still tearful after last evenings game I always always hated pens as a way of deciding a game and the hurt players feel esp keepers And the hurt of eg young Dohertyi if they are the ones to miss must be shattering
Must be a better way but tv love it so we might be stuck with it I DO HATE IT

Equally disappointed last night. Great atmosphere and we showed our appreciation for efforts. We did well to get so far.
I'll leave you to Waterside station at 7.20 if you decide on train.

Eugene, Storm Betty was expected to pass this morning around 6 but it is still a bit blowy in Derry at the moment. All should be fine for tomorrow.

If Maher sticks to being a GK and Connelly a CB we'll do alright!brandyball wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 5:21 pmNot sure he'll risk Fats from the start maybe McEneff and possibly Todd in the back four.
Jokes aside this is going to be really tough but we're at "home" in the Brandywell and if we can get through it we will surely be favourites for the Cup. At the moment I think Pats must be slight favourites given our recent travels. They'll be fresh and will likely try and go at us from the off.

Give them a week off and go again.
Horrible week. Two home loses and out of 2 cups.
Need to find a way of scoring from open play.
