Derry City v Athlone Town Match Thread

Post by TenaciousDee »

Link to the tickets for this FAI Cup match https://www.derrycityfc.net/tickets-min ... KZIc2vZW74

Will we go full strength or rest some players ahead of next week? Last season's cup campaign would suggest we start from the first kick to the last starting with your best 11, but attitudes change.

If you can't make it it will be live on LOITV, BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105.

I'd say we will rest a few giving McEneff Coll,The 2 Kavanaghs more game time.

We're probably the most expensive club in the league for tickets (unless anyone charges €20 for ordinary seats) ?

Hopefully when the new stand opens the prices will stay flat for a good few years. Full houses will probably no longer be the norm with a much bigger capacity, so the club will need to widen the appeal of prices.

This peaked my curiosity so checked. Sligo charge 20.

To watch Galway v Bangor Celtic in the cup on Sunday is 15 euro. Crazy really (the fact prices are fixed and can't be reduced for such games)

The Euro tie is potentially worth another E200k+ if we get through so I know what I would be doing……….

Would love to see two strikers up front. At home to a first division team.

Out of curiosity, is this the first time we have played Athlone in the FAI Cup since 1993?

Judging by the online ticket sales it's going to be a low crowd in today. It's a shame tickets are £17. Should be a tenner maximum.
Hopefully no underestimating Athlone and get the job done.

In terms of a contest it was one sided and in terms of entertainment it was more of the usual. Slow and controlling but when the four subs came on the tempo picked up slightly and Fats was a joy to watch. Everything he did was simple but effective. I really hope he is fit enough to start Thursday because his passes potentially is a difference maker regardless of opposition.

Fats and Duffy seem to be playing in a different game to the rest of them. Surely this was the perfect time to try different tactics. Even when Duffy wasn't on they still kept searching out the left wing when swith to the right where Boyce or someone was in acres of space.
