Derry City v Shamrock Rovers Match Thread

Post by TenaciousDee »

Rovers are currently the inform team in the league with 5 wins from 7, and 2 draws. With City winning at home for the first time at home since March this will be a highly anticipated game for both sets of supporters. Limited tickets in the usual outlets across town.

Remember KO is at 7:15pm with the match live on Virgin Media, BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105.

Live on RTE 2.

Could be a 1-0 game. Good signs that we have a different and more effective way of playing now. McGonigle has a good record against Shams so could see him start. Let’s go City. RAWA.

Sorry I was under the impression it was Virgin this time round. Now I understand why I am being thrown to the far side now.

It's a game that we can win but can't afford to get beat IMO. If we win the midfield battle we can sneak it.

I hope you get to commentate on a Derry goal, even an O.G. and a victory... thoughts and prayers ;)

Remember under Pizza I went through a similar patch? Aaron Barry scored and I couldn't get the words out of my mouth to report what was going on as I was in shock.

Personally I back the theory it is down to the socks and the missing seats in Section K.

Brutal so far. Rovers in control for most of it so far. That's not a title winning team we have

Was surprised how easy that was for them. Felt like they had worked out how Derry play fairly easily and worked harder.

Surprised to see McGonigle start.

Hope Whelan is OK.

Shockingly Bad. Think Jamie's time is up.

Can only agree with all the thoughts so far.

Outclassed, out muscled, out thought.

Don't think there was one Derry player tonight that you'd pick that Rovers would want in their team.

Seemed devoid of any tactics at all. Just hit long balls and hope for the best.

All we can play for is 2nd, cos we aren't going to be close to that Rovers team come the end of the season.

The scary thing is Rovers didn't have to get out of 1st gear and we gifted them the 2nd. Serious title contenders don't do things like that. We have a fight for a second place this season.

It was very worrying to see Whelan struggle to walk off his injury, and seeing him thump the ground doesn't bode well.

Hopefully he hasn't done any damage to his ACL, lad deserves a bit of luck.
