I think we need a win and just as importantly a good performance in order to get out of the psyche that they can't play on the pitch.
2-0 win
2-0 win

Re: Derry City v Drogheda United Match Thread
It will be same again with Drogheda coming up sitting deep and compact like most other teams that have come to the Brandywell and once again the onus will be on Derry to find away of breaking them down.
Id like to see a change in tactics of some sort maybe even something like putting big Kavanagh up front and trying to hit him earlier and starting play from there. The passing out from the back has been too slow and one paced while at home and allows teams to find their shape again.
Hoping for something different from Higgins that shows he isnt just one dimensional in his thinking.
I would go for a change of formation and pose a different threat. It would also have Bohs thinking as to what Derry will do on Monday night.
Maher
Coll Shane McJannet
Graydon Doherty
Diallo
Fats McEneff
Kavanagh Mcgonigle

Couldn't agree more...unfortunately Higgins seems to be very one dimensional and it'll be mcgonigle up front on his own ,no start again for mceneff and patching ondcfc_legend9 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 11:22 am It will be same again with Drogheda coming up sitting deep and compact like most other teams that have come to the Brandywell and once again the onus will be on Derry to find away of breaking them down.

Really poor performance playing against 10 men for a long period of time, Patching and Diallo slowed the game down with side to side or backwards passing and both winders were well contained. Lucky Bohs lost but we have others now gaining ground. Disappointing night. Ref was poor for both sides.

Sick saying it but unless we're playing UCD at home we won't consistently win on that pitch.
Ref was awful and as soon drogs went down to ten men he tried his best to give every decision in their favour.
On the performance dire stuff again. Pass sideways and back. Patching and diallo shouldn't start in the same team again.
Luckily every team looks inconsistent this year and we should hopefully achieve a European place.

Whoever says the pitch is to blame need to open their eyes. Higgins is at fault for these displays- doesn't deviate from the system, persist with one striker up front, haven't a clue how to break teams down, let Thomson go when he was the best midfielder to break into the box (none of the midfielders bar mceneff has done it this season). McGonigle offers nothing up front on his own. He needs to find a winning formula at home and soon as Rovers will fly past us otherwise.

Even when we were 11 v 10 we still had only one player in the box. From the start we we slow and ponderous, the quality of passing was awful from a number of the players. It is worrying that we don’t fly out of the blocks at home with a big crowd. Drogheda were up for it and even with 10 men never lost their shape or tenacity. As others have said Patching and Diallo cannot play in the same team unless you have someone near them to give them a kick up the arsenal every couple of minutes.

Brandon kavanagh must be frustrated. Thought he did relatively well last year and hasn't had a look in this year. Some of the players get a free pass and play every game no matter how they perform. Up to Higgins to see this and change it.

B Kavanagh is shite so he can be frustrated all he wants.
Our wingers aren't good enough to play on the front foot. We need Duffy and another to help us break teams down. We aren't creating chances when we don't have space.

Tactically we are rigid. 4 2 3 1. This I believe us the main reason why our away form is better away from home, not the pitch.
Couldn't believe he took mceneff offf at ht with them down to 10 men. Hes about the only mf who will join the attack to support McGonigle. Coll should have went off at ht he offers little going forward. Poor all over the pitch tonight.

This is 100%. Use the ref as an excuse and the pitch if you want, but the tactics are what is to blame.YorbaLinda wrote: ↑Fri Apr 07, 2023 10:17 pm Even when we were 11 v 10 we still had only one player in the box.
