Checking his stats on Wikipedia, he doesn't sound like he is going to get us many goals anyway.

Edit : I take it he can't play with us until July?

Scottish striker Danny Mullen, according to twitter. Same account that said we're interested in Ruairi Keating so pinch of salt needed.

Being interested doesn't mean you'll get the player. Listening to Buckley following our game v Cork, it sounded like there was some noise which he had to rule out.

I seen Mullen play for Partick Thistle a number of times last season. He was mostly used off the bench. Based on what I seen, I think he could be fairly useful for us. He hasn't been prolific in his career to date but if we can create chances for him, he should get a number of goals. He's fairly mobile and puts himself about despite not being the tallest.

We need an out and out striker who we can rely on for 20+ goals a season. Our modern-day Owen DGama, Johnny Speak, Liam Coyle, Mark Farren or whatever player from the past you want to compare them to (even Rory Patterson ! :D )

Obviously that's easier said than done - as those players are rare, expensive and in-demand from everyone else. Plus there are almost none of them in Ireland at a club where they're likely to join Derry as a step up (except maybe Mata at Sligo?). So we'll probably have to go fishing off the island for someone like that.

But if we're serious about winning the league in the coming years, I can't see how we'll do it without a proven goal machine.

He was off the bench most of the year because he had a couple of lay offs with ankle injuries, eventually he had surgery during the season. If the transfer goes through I hope he is over it because we need some luck up front after what happened with Whelan.

A guy who has ankle injuries and ankle surgery, coming to play on our pitch every fortnight.

What could go wrong?

We need to stop signing players with injuries. In hindsight there's a good reason why the clubs in Britain that were apparently interested in Whelan didn't pick him up. Perhaps they knew better tan we did how difficult t would be to get solid game time out of him any time soon. He's hardly played for us so far (part of 2 matches ?) whilst being on our wage bill.

It would probably save us a fortune if we stop signing any more players of questionable fitness. Did we learn nothing from Oa Tidman ?

For Europe, yes. For tomorrow's game it is still a work in progress

Danny just needs International clearance for tomorrow.

Wouldn't call 18 month contract long term.
