Drogheda
A wee glimmer of picking up 2 points perhaps on the top two who might just draw on Sunday But this is the season of “should” but didn’t I just look to the cup now for that wee thrill that has evaded us for so long. These now are just games hopefully to be enjoyed and maybe see a few performances from eg Duffy Fats and hopefully young Porter Maybe even a striker who will score a few So Hope reigns supreme as money tumbles unstopped into the Rovers war chest Ah well

Re: Drogheda
The league challenge is over. We all agree on that. But I see Pats and Sligo breathing down out neck and if were not careful (or become complacent) then we could find ourselves sitting 4th or 5th at the end of the season. That would be a disaster. So I see 3 points in our remaining games as vital to regain some momentum and keep the pressure on Dundalk. 2nd or 3rd should be our aim this season but its not guaranteed.eugenio wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 8:56 am A wee glimmer of picking up 2 points perhaps on the top two who might just draw on Sunday But this is the season of “should” but didn’t I just look to the cup now for that wee thrill that has evaded us for so long. Re: Drogheda
The goal has to be to finish in the top 3 at this stage. Anything less could probably be classified as a huge disappointment.
The previous two games v Drogheda ended 1-1, after we won the first meeting 2-0. They don't have anything of substance to play for in the league so hopefully they won't be too motivated. Pressure is on us to stay ahead of Pats.
Dundalk play Rovers on Sunday... If we win and Dundalk win then who knows...

Re: Drogheda
Would disagree that the league challenge is over... We should be striving to win every match until the end of the season and keeping touch... Winning breeds confidence...
Rovers have a lot of games and their players will feel the strain... Its up to the chasing pack to not give up and keep pecking away at their tails...
0-2 away win tonight please...

Sadly predicable result. Only 3 players started from last season.
If were not careful Higgins will deliver 4th place with 2 different squads in consecutive years.

We need to be more clinical and the decline in form of McGonigle is alarming. With us having to play Rovers, Dundalk, StPats and Sligo again means how high we finish is still in our own hands.

Re: Drogheda
Are you lot serious? With 9 games to go why would we even have the suggestion that are fate isn't in our own hands? We haven't lost a competitive domestic game since May 23rd and the doomsday clouds are out in force because we drew with a team that are experts on shutting up shop. If you were holding hope for the league title, sorry to break it to you, we were never winning the league this year. You can be ambitious and say that but Rovers were always set up better to do it in 2022. Maybe next year but this year there was more chance of Ollie Horgan going a week without receiving a yellow or red card. People may argue that if we had this player, that player fit all year and McGonigle firing them in like the start of the year we'd be there, but that is as hypothetical as the old Derry saying about if your granny had balls.....
Currently we are 3 points behind Dundalk who are 2nd with a game in hand once they play Rovers tomorrow. Pat's won't finish 3rd and certainly won't pass us as their inconsistent form would reflect. Sligo are a terrible team and the run in Europe has covered over that crack. I am confident the lowest we will finish is 3rd.

1 league win since 1st May (1nil v UCD) tells its own story.
Agree Sligo are out of the running but Pats very much in the race for top 3.
