He'll be a very good signing- competition everywhere on the pitch now.

That's a great signing on a 2 yr deal. It also weakens Pats.

I take it the lad we had on trial (Britton?) didn't receive an offer?

I'd guess not, but I'd much rather have a player like Smith who knows the league and more importantly has scored a lot of goals in recent seasons.

Smith is a great bit of business for the club. Pats must be raging.

Even more excited about the new season now.

Might be too soon fir the first team but 16 year old Daithi McCallion has been the youngest player to sign a professional contract.

Another youngster signed up on a 3 year deal.

Dundalk fans are raging even more. Even suggesting that it's time to introduce FFP. The irony of it is hilarious, no longer the big spenders so they want to stop others from spending

Could be a good signing for them. 1st Div will be competitive this year.

Great to see these young lads getting their professional contracts. It also protects the clubs against these young lads all drifting over to Scotland and England on free contracts. Picking off the best emerging talent for next to nothing. In the last week alone 2 Irish youngsters from Cork City and Pats (age 16, and 18) have moved to Italy to AC Milan and Udinese which is great to see. Clubs that have contracts in place are protected. Those that don't get buttons in compensation.

Think that's why it's important we offer 2-3 year deals which will also look after the clubs interests.

Absolutely. All comes down to professionalism and money. Those with the means will be in the best place to attract young talent and move then on at the the right time and for the right compensation. Shamrock Rovers have nailed it. Takes money and planning but the rewards for players and clubs are there for the taking.

Exciting time. Mad to think this time last season Devine was leading us into a new season. So much has changed since then.
