Another point is an astro surface will never last as long as a well maintained grass pitch

Getting involved with this could be worth the bus fare to the Board.

Wouldn't hurt if a few fans went along and vented their spleen about the Brandywell as well :

Have your say on future sports facilities in your area……
08 July 2015

Derry City and Strabane Council are inviting all organisations with an interest to give their views on the future of sports facilities in the newly formed Council area as part of work to produce a Sports Facilities Strategy for Northern Ireland and 11 District Council Area Reports.

The work is being undertaken by a consortium led by Strategic Leisure Ltd. on behalf of Sport NI and the 11 District Councils. The purpose of this work is to provide a Strategic approach to any current and future facility development needs and to provide a framework for the prioritisation & development of facilities and to prioritise investment by a range of investors in sports facility provision.

The Sports Facilities Strategy for Northern Ireland is currently being produced and is scheduled for completion by the end of July 2015 with 11 New District Council Area Reports completed by October 2015.

The Facilities Strategy work will identify the strategic need for:
Sports facilities of Northern Ireland wide significance;
Sports facilities that are of cultural importance;
High performance training and competition sports facilities;
Local sport facility needs (i.e. District Council areas)

New district Council Area Reports will flow out of the Sports Facilities Strategy for Northern Ireland and Identify strategic need for local facilities and recommend locations for development/refurbishment of sports facilities.

The Council are keen to engage with all key stakeholders who have views on the future of sports facilities in the district and have arranged consultation sessions to get:
Views on existing facilities in your area:
Any issues there may be with existing facilities?
What facilities do you think are needed and why?
Where do you think more facilities are needed and why?

Consultation sessions will take place in both Derry City and Strabane and anyone considering attending is welcome to attend either of the two sessions the details of which are as follows:

Derry City
Wednesday 29th July 2015 @ 7pm
Foyle Arena, Limavady Rd, Derry BT47 6JY

Strabane
Thursday 6th August 2015 @ 7pm
Melvin Sports Complex, Melvin Rd, Strabane BT82 9PP

Each session will last no more than 90 minutes and will include a brief presentation on the strategy work to date and will provide an overview of the production of club development plans in line with recently launched SNI funding programmes.

The Council are urging organisations to attend these important events and are also encouraging organisations to ensure that the contact details they currently hold for their organisation are current so please contact Aiden Lynch on aiden.lynch@derrycityandstrabanedistrict.com to confirm your attendance and contact details for one of the consultation events or if unable to attend one of the events then to provide current contact details for your organisation (whether new or existing) so that you can be kept informed of important developments in relation to the ongoing facilities strategy work and other future new Council programmes and initiatives.

From the Belfast Telegraph article, Sean Barrett is quoted as saying:
"We will also have a new 3G pitch which we feel is the way forward. It will be top of the range and will give us the opportunity to use the pitch on non-match days and rent it out, providing additional income.
Will the pitch not be council owned? Why would DCFC be allowed to rent out the pitch on on-match days in a council owned facility? Would it not be the council who stand to gain from any of the supposed financial benefit that 3g pitches bring? Or is the pitch leased out to DCFC for the full year who then hire it out to others?

How are we supposed to know when the board don't talk to us

Can only guess that the club has a lease on the whole set up, and then rent it out themselves.

Not sure how that would square with the other football users of the Brandywell though e.g. the D&D.

On a more positive note, the Glentoran Stand will be locked up on Friday night and the telephone engineers were in today removing all telephone lines. Slow it maybe but we can see the light at the end of a very long tunnel.

I don't see how knocking down parts of the ground is a positive when nothing is being built. Even thought it hardly seems possible in a few weeks time the brandywell will be a bigger shithole than it is now.

Could we have a photo of a supporter, if still living, who was in the stand when first used at a Derry match..? And give him/her a lift in the dozer to start the demolition.

Health and safety laws would prevent this happening, anybody know what date the stand was brought to the brandywell

Great idea.

So much history in that stand and countless stories to be told. Great opportunity for the Club to get a bit of PR from it but I doubt it will happen.

You'd think the Journal at least would dig out the archives and get a few photos out

more hot air about the brandywell in the journal today, front page headline says council to spend 30 million on projects inc the brandywell then when you turn to the article it says council to spend 20 million on projects
