"Derry City FC News & Updates" is a Facebook fan page rather than one directly linked with the club's media team.

The page has got 1,600 likes (official club page has 19,600 likes) but any sharing of club statements/updates/promotions that it does are of course welcomed as the more people we can reach the better and help spread the word on upcoming matches, season tickets sales and merch etc.

It's just that as fans, everyone should know that it's not an official page so to take things from it with a pinch of salt unless it's sharing a statement from the official Facebook Derry City Football Club or our Twitter (@derrycityfc) or a link to the club's website at http://www.derrycityfc.net. These outlets are where official club announcements will come from.

Hopefully that's a bit clearer as I've seen a good few fans confusing that page for an official outlet for the club.

Does anyone know if Southend Park stand will be any closer to the pitch now that the dog track has gone? Initial photos indicate that it won't be any closer which will really annoy me if it's the case.

Looks to me like the pitch will be closer to Southend Stand with corner flag pretty much in line with aisle between Blocks B&C.

It's worrying that the Council aren't committing to a date for when the stadium will be ready - just saying they're 'pulling out all the stops'.

Exiled fans have travel plans to make - as do away supporters.

The Sligo match is 5 weeks tomorrow, and judging by the photos there's still a lot of work to be finished, plus presumably a trial game or two to get the venue license confirmed.

Martin Reilly from SDLP was on Radio Foyle today stating he's hopeful it will be ready on time, weather permitting. He also spoke about refurb work being done on the South end stand.

Kenny Shiels on bbc newsline tonight said that they hoped to train on the pitch sometime next week

I thought that with most major construction contracts these days, if it overran then the builders got hit with penalties.

Is that happening in this case I wonder?

It's a poor excuse to blame the weather imho, it's not like we live in Siberia ffs, the weather hasn't been that severe to cause a major delay.

I have been told there has been extensive bookings taken from school groups and Junior Football teams over the next few weeks.

Yes Steve but there is a lot of safety work still to do. I’m told our first league game will likely be Vs Dundalk with the Sligo fixture being reversed.

Was over today, got a sneaky look through an open gate on the Brandywell Road and saw the seats being installed on the Mark Farren stand. Spoke to one of the workers who said that the dressing rooms etc in the stand were being tiled but he reckons that the handover will not be until March and even then he thinks that it will be tight.

could be just to test out the surface, make sure there are no issues

The surface is reported to be 4G which means that there are restrictions on the footwear to be used - no metal studs/blades as they cut the surface as well as players, no flat soled trainers as they compress the surface and no muddy boots allowed, so you prospective footballers have been warned.

Heard news that the Southend Stand seating frame is on the way out its covered in a plastic coating which has now cracked and letting rainwater in which is eroding the metal, lucky to last 5-7 years.

What is the seating frame - the metal bits that hold the seats in place ?

If so, it wouldn't be a major job to sort that out. I'm not saying it's a small or cheap job either - just that it's not on the worrying scale of something major like the main structure having concrete cancer.
