Re: 2025 SQUAD
No great surprise to see Whelan go. He wasn't getting any game time, plus the pitch was probably going to injure him again at some point.
He's a prospect, let's hope he can stay fit and have a good career.

The board should release a statement and tell fans what's going on. Other teams are signing players and we aren't even sure who the manager is going to be next season.

This is what worries me, they aren't announcing anything because they don't have to, the manager isn't going to change.Paddydcfc2010 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 13, 2024 8:10 pm The board should release a statement and tell fans what's going on. Re: 2025 SQUAD
A few players have had one foot out the door for a long period I would say. I've no doubt the ones we wanted to keep were offered new terms and refused to sign up.
Whelan won't be last, thats the nature of football in LOI, alot players move for free's at end of the contracts.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
Whelan was definitely only the 1st.
I'd put money on Maher, Patching, O'Reilly also moving on. 2 unhappy about, the other good riddance.
Then there is the list of others who are still under contract, but perhaps might be allowed to leave if they want to. Thinking of the likes of Idehen, Wisdom, McMullan, Hoban, Robertson, Diallo.

Wisdom's contract is up and he will likely return to England to his family.

Talking of Wisdom who's bright idea was it to give Davenport and Mullan another 18 months?TenaciousDee wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:15 am Wisdom's contract is up and he will likely return to England to his family.

They'll only have a year to run until the end of 2025. I've no issues with Mullan staying on. Davenport hasn't impressed in his limited time.marcoloco wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:01 amTalking of Wisdom who's bright idea was it to give Davenport and Mullan another 18 months?TenaciousDee wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 10:15 am Wisdom's contract is up and he will likely return to England to his family.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
I've always viewed Danny as a squad player that gives 100%. But I don't think he has the quality to hold down a regular place in the first 11 nor is he an out and out goal scorer. He's an impact sub. Same with Davenport - another singing designed to beef up the squad without pushing hard for a starting spot. As Hoban is another year older and I would have preferred to seen him used in that capacity and a new striker brought into the squad.Nige92 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 11:57 amThey'll only have a year to run until the end of 2025. Brian has said in the Journal that it was his choice not to speak about a contract. Brian has 3 optionsbrandyball wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 2:39 pm maher loves it here but no talka with club ud have thought he would be a priority.
1. Stay with us
2. Join another Premier Division Club
3. Move to UK or Europe
On option 1, the club will want to keep him as No 1, there is a back-up arranged already if he leaves.
On option 2, who does he join? From what I hear Rovers aren't interested. Shels, Pats & Bohs have steady starting goalkeepers already. I can't see him joining anyone else. Out of the Dublin clubs the only team I could see moving for him might be Bohs.
On option 3, he did have offers from UK & Europe at the end of last season and in the summer but wanted to see out the season with us.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
Bohs is an obvious and easy move for him. Rovers (Pats or Shels) could look at him as a No.2. He might fancy his chances at Rovers where the current keeper got off to a shaky start and has not always been convincing. Would love to see him remain but unsure if he'll want to commit with all the uncertainty around the manager and the pitch.DeeDerry1975 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 3:22 pmBrian has said in the Journal that it was his choice not to speak about a contract. Re: 2025 SQUAD
Brian Maher is a better keeper than Leon Pohls. He would easily be their no.1 choice for goal.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
Pohls was very poor when he arrived but in fairness has settled down after a shaky start and this is reflected in Rover's improved results both domestically and in Europe. Rovers would be a good move for Maher but I can't imagine he'll be given any assurances about being their No.1.TenaciousDee wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 4:39 pm Brian Maher is a better keeper than Leon Pohls.
