Maybe the voters need to look elsewhere, as the ones we keep on electing don't seem to do much for the city?

Apparently Dick Spring said Celtic Park is only a back up if Casement isn't ready.micdaflic wrote:And it looks like the gaaboys will get another £30million to upgrade stadia if Ireland get rugby world cup and this will include Celtic Park
He certainly suggested it on BBC Newsline.brandyball wrote:Apparently Dick Spring said Celtic Park is only a back up if Casement isn't ready.micdaflic wrote:And it looks like the gaaboys will get another £30million to upgrade stadia if Ireland get rugby world cup and this will include Celtic Park
Good question.shauna wrote:But sure what good did all that mass protest back in the 60's do cause they still built the university in coleraine and to this day magee still only gets the crumbs, roads, rail, public investment mass protest got us no were.stevebradley wrote:The difference is that we just take it and put up with it.shauna wrote: Imagine the uproar there would have been in belfast if the windsor park or ravenhill redevelopments had consisted of one third of a stand being built.
The Derry of the 1960s that used to stand up and fight for itself sadly seems to be long gone. The city seems to have had any fight knocked out of it.
Seriously - look at the long list of sh!t we have to put up with in Derry. Roads, rail, University, Brandywell, Jobs, public investment etc etc. Yet when was the last time a proper battle or fuss was made over anything ? I don't mean people like Martina Anderson saying she'll 'Stand up for Derry' a month before an election. Compare to the 1960s when something like 15,000 people from the City formed a cavalcade up to Stormont to protest at the University decision. You wouldn't even get a tenth of that for a protest in the city now.
Derry doesn't fight for itself any more - hence it gets fcuk all. That's not going to change until the city starts to stand up for itself and kick back. That's my genuine view on it all anyway, and even just typing about it makes me cross
I'm fairly sure POD said at one of the supporters meetings that when the work started all of the stand would be built, as the money to do that was in place.shauna wrote:Anybody know how much it would cost the council to finish the other two thirds of the stand in one go, surely it would be cheaper in the long run to finish the stand entirely when the contractor's are already on site.
Was the planning permission for the whole length of the stand, or just the initial phase ?pmac wrote:I'm fairly sure POD said at one of the supporters meetings that when the work started all of the stand would be built, as the money to do that was in place.shauna wrote:Anybody know how much it would cost the council to finish the other two thirds of the stand in one go, surely it would be cheaper in the long run to finish the stand entirely when the contractor's are already on site.
Contract was for 6.44m so maybe it will be done.pmac wrote:I'm fairly sure POD said at one of the supporters meetings that when the work started all of the stand would be built, as the money to do that was in place.shauna wrote:Anybody know how much it would cost the council to finish the other two thirds of the stand in one go, surely it would be cheaper in the long run to finish the stand entirely when the contractor's are already on site.
Building the full-length stand all at once would make sense from every angle. Where would the money come from though ?KEVK wrote:If the work had started when originally planned, then the stand would have been done in phases.
You would like to think that after all this time, there would be enough funding in place to build the stand in one go.
There seems so many versions of the truth at the moment,ned1987 wrote:Dear jesus the new stand were getting looks awful. Tiny. £6.4 million for about 1000 seater stand, Move the dog track to the showgrounds and a plastic pitch for 6.4 million doesnt sound value for money. Just do the job right ffs council. We were told it was a 3600 seater stand. Can't wait to see eddie mahon's column in the journal lol.
It's in the Derry news today the council have put out a revised picture of the new stand and it's tiny. 1000 seats just.gary wrote:There seems so many versions of the truth at the moment,ned1987 wrote:Dear jesus the new stand were getting looks awful. Does anyone actually know for sure if its the middle part of the stand
or the entire stand, and what will the full capacity be?
I would assume what ever we end up with at the end of this phase is what we will be stuck
with for the next 50 years
Thats so dissapointing i feared the worst as far as the new stand goes but hoped all the rumours were false and it would be completely built but this picture in the derry news finally confirms the worst, a stadium with a seated capacity of just over 3,000 for the next 50 years is our lot.ned1987 wrote:It's in the Derry news today the council have put out a revised picture of the new stand and it's tiny. 1000 seats just.gary wrote:There seems so many versions of the truth at the moment,ned1987 wrote:Dear jesus the new stand were getting looks awful.
