Re: Derry City "V" FCB Magpies - 11-07-2024do we score from cornersc
As regarding. “get behind the TEAM through thick or thin “ I M all for that. But if that team has individuals who are holding us back , are managers favs or are stupid foulers I WILL NOT back them. But going every week, paying the money , clapping them , cheering the goals , surely that’s getting behind the Team Where I have an issue is where the stuff served up,is tripe and hard workers eg Mc Mullan marooned on the left wing where he is useless and Deffy sits on the bench,…where another can't put the ball into an empty goal on 5 occasions can’t actually beat an opponent and def cannot cross yet starts every game and where a player tosses games for us by his outrageous pens but they stay on Game after game …. then I’m in a different ball game Bored solid, seen v v bad teams beat us , look like a club not coached. Eg <[Two goals from set pieces to our opponents to night when we just don’t score from these things is down to,a manager. I just cannot get behind him now do I feel I have to yes At my age “I’m Derry till I die “. “but as for our manager he’s not in that catagory He’s killing our team and my love for it. But I’ll pay and go,on Prob so,will he alas. HE must see ,what a travesty it is , with players of quality and heart at his disposal buts mostly sitting on the bench at his silly whim tbh

Ahh now Keyser. Change manager this week and instantly start winning things ? How ? To whom ?Keyser Soze wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 8:55 pm If we change manager this week, we still could have a serious go at the return leg, and even the league.

Re: Derry City "V" FCB Magpies - 11-07-2024
As a complete aside on all of this - the manager of Welsh club Caernarfon is young and is starting to show an ability to get the most out of a team with limited resources.
Last season was his first in charge of the club, and he got them to European qualification via a big play-off win despite finishing 5th in the Cymru Premier. And they beat Crusaders 2-0 tonight, which they werenl't expected to do.
I'm not saying this guy is the answer for us, as the Welsh league is definitely weaker than the LOI (though they've had 3 wins & 1 defeat in Europe this week, versus the LOI's 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat against a weaker set of teams). I just think he's someone worth watching to see where his career goes. He'll struggle to win much in Wales against TNS's hig bucks, so would probably love a move to somewhere with more potential. Wouldn't be surprised if a struggling lower division English club make a swoop for him in the Autumn after sacking their current manager.

Once you start looking for a manager, you headhunt. You can use data companies to gain insights on potential managers to approach, employ agents to headhunt, or advertise the job so people can apply.
Just because Steve Bradley hasn't been actively searching for a new manager for Derry City Football Club, it doesn't mean there aren't people out there.

Re: Derry City "V" FCB Magpies - 11-07-2024
Reading through this, I had to check if I was accidentally on a forum for England fans. They wanted Southgate gone during the Group Stage and now they'd all let him shag their wives if he wanted.
I'm also reminded of Eric White's radio commentary during our home game against Dinamo Minsk in 2018, where he declared after the 2nd goal in the 60th (!) minute of the first (!) leg, that our European adventure was over for another season. Anyone who remembers, will know that we won the second leg 2-1 and were by far the better team and unlucky to not have scored more and taken it to ET at least. The tie isn't over. Knock all this bullshit on the head and get behind the team. You can call for the manager's head if we lose again next week. Don't be England fans.

That's a cheap shot, trying to compare us to England fans.
Many of us didn't just start slagging the manager off since last night's game. Many have been doing it all season.
As Eugenio mentioned above, you can still support your team, but you can still point out how bad we are playing, how putrid we are to watch, how crazy some of the team selections seem to be etc. Blindly following our leader and saying its all rosy in the garden is helping no-one, but if some folk want to do that, that's their perogative. But I'll continue to call out muck when I watch it. And the emptying stadium tells you that many others are fed up with the product as well.
Yes I'll be there next week to cheer them on, and hope we can turn it around. We still have a good chance of progressing as it's a part time team from a league smaller than ours, who played their first competitive game of the season yesterday. We should be hungrier next week, fitter. Time will tell if the manager is able to pick a team, tactics and be able to motivate the players to turn this around. For financial reasons it would be great to progress, but I'd fear for the winner of the tie v Copenhagen.

We are a bunch of moaners though. Look back over the past few months at the threads about matches. When we win, few comments, when we lose 3 pages of comments. I checked this morning. We beat Drogheda 5-1 and there are 11 replies on the thread, before that we drew 0-0 with Dundalk, 50 replies on the thread
Look, no one is saying we are happy with the season, the manager, the players but a bit of debate and discussion is what we are here for. Everyone has the right to air their views, we may not agree with them but people are right to air them. We are all passionate supporters of Derry City and last night hurt but we have been here before. We will hopefully turn it around next week and we will see a thread with 11 posts again!

Re: Derry City "V" FCB Magpies - 11-07-2024
Last night's result was not a surprise.
Anyone watching our games will know that we're not great in defence, midfield or attack. Throw in the heat and it culminated in just another typical Derry performance which we've seen many times over under Higgins. Think Bohs away, Drogheda away, Sligo away.
Can we turn it around next week - yes. The tie is not dead. But i've been consistent from early on - The tactics are dull. The performances are dull. The players look disinterested. The bulk of fans certainly are going that way. And even if we win 5 nil next week I still think we should change him.
The money on offer to advance to the next stage, and against a top side, is too good to throw away. To blow it now would be unthinkable.

Where was Boyce last night?
Seems to have vanished?
Where's McEneff? Didn't see either of them in the subs line-up.
Davenport? With such a lack of creativity in midfield, would it not have been worth throwing him into the game at some point?

Perhaps they are injured? Who knows, it's like a state secret finding out about injuries around the club.

I'm guessing Davenport is not match fit and it would not be a good idea playing him in 30d heat.Keyser Soze wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 12:05 pm Where was Boyce last night?

Even for the last 10 or 15?
To see if he could offer something different?
When will he be ready to play? Not many games left in the league.
How many will he play? 5, 6 7?
Watching from the bench yesterday he must have been thinking "what have I signed up for".

I asked the same question when he signed - is he fit, can he start, or will we see him for the odd cameo appearance from time to time.

8 billion people on the planet eh? It ssounds like the FAI asked every single one of them if they wanted the Ireland managerial job over an 8 month period before settling on a newly available Icelander this week.
Finding a manager who is :
a) Capable of winning things for Derry City,
b) At wages we can afford, and
c) Willing to join an LOI club and build it up over the following years, rather than ditch us at the first alternative offer...
.....is far from the cake walk you're suggesting it is. At least you've given up on demanding Stephen Kennny's return now that he's run off with the girl next door yet again

Is there many more happy clappers left that moan about the rest of the support pointing out the obvious.
A lot of people on here, including myself, have called Higgins out a long time ago for being a one trick pony. He has a massive budget for this league and no one can tell me that a half decent manager couldnt get more out of this squad or spent the money more wisely. Reality is he's a poor manager and has had more than enough time. He needs to win the shels match which is the next league match if he is still here. Even if they win and get through next Thurs if still won't change my mind as to what needs to happen- we got rid of the wrong person at the start of the season.
