Derry would certainly receive a derogation to play at the likes of Maginn on a temporary basis. Sure only months ago Limerick were in Jackman, which bar a few seats is quite similar. Institute have a far superior ground though.

Although was there temporary seating placed behind the goal at Jackman last season to accommodate travelling supporters?

Does it have any seats at present

Certainly the article I read to day in the Tele is the most absurdly stupid I have seen IE that Derry play 12 homes in a row and end the season playing 12 Aways.. This moronic rumour should be put to bed at once.. We surely must be able to overcome this hurdle for the few months it takes. Again I say if Mick Wallace could transform Wexford Youths grounds in a few weeks to stage the League Cuo Final against us we should be able to put something together and the FAI Must help

Wallace was a millionaire builder we dont have those resources behind us eugenio

To keep yous all in the loop, the board travelled out to Maginn Park in Buncrana on Friday evening to check it out as an option. We're also in contact with Celtic Park and Riverside Stadium and we're going to visit them as well. We're also looking into the possibility of swapping home/away fixtures around. At the minute though, nothing to report! I'll give you updates after all the meetings if you want.

I think if all options were available for us to choose from, most would go for Celtic Park, but we have to wait for the GAA to agree to that first before we can take any further steps.

Riverside Stadium would be a good option as well, but sadly even in this day and age, there's always the slight chance that bringing Dublin teams to Drumahoe in August might have security and safety issues for numerous reasons.

I can tell you that it took no longer than 15mins to get from Bridgend to Maginn Park last night for anyone that hasn't been there. The same amount of time it takes to get to Drumahoe from some parts of Derry, so it's not that far out.

Hopefully we can get an answer asap and get it put to bed so we can move on with the logistics. Cheers for your patience and I'm sure you'll appreciate that the board aren't just sitting around phoning it in hoping something comes out of the blue!

Riverside would bring an opportunity to see if the club could pick up a bit more protestant support from that neck of the woods, but that would obviously be a secondary consideration behind other things.

If we do play out of Maginn, I'd love to see the club try to make a big deal of it in the local area. We'd have novelty value and would be offering something new on their doorstep whilst there. We used to have a lot of fans in places like Buncrana back in the 80s, so this could be a chance to create some new ones through, for example, school visits in the week before games etc. I would go big on the PR in the press, posters around town, get the Buncrana Mayor on the pitch before the first game there for press photos etc. Treat it like we used to the big European games 10yrs ago with all the buzz around them, and Buncrana people will want to check us out.

According to Philip O'Doherty in today's Derry News we are meeting with Institute and will only approach Celtic Park after exploring the soccer grounds first.

I would suggest that strategically this is the wrong thing to do.

Even if we didn't use Celtic Park this time round, it's easy to imagine a point in the future when it would be helpful if we could do so. So no harm in setting the hare racing at this stage IMO.
