TL obviously doesn't know his own Club's history in full (and I wouldn't expect him to either) otherwise the Jungle would have been the first thing that jumped into his head. But we won't hold that against him. Everyday is a school day (for all of us!)

I don't need an education on Spion Kop and it's relevance in the Boer War, but cheers for that anyway.
Jeez lad - you're being very precious here. This is a public forum, where posts get read by multiple people. You may be a Professor of the Boer War, but not everyone else is - so it made sense to clarify what the issue was for all readers rather than talk about something indirectly/mysteriously. Apologies if that put your nose out of joint.

I think the Apprentice Boys would disagree with your analysis of the current day significance of the Derry walls.
I made no mention of the
significance of the walls to anyone. Just that they're not seen as belonging to one or other community here. Which is just a straightforward statement of fact.
IfYouTolerateThis wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 9:02 am And the fact the walls are incorporated on the club badge perhaps indicates how Derry supporters place less emphasis on the British military significance of the walls... in the same way that they would not reference the British in the Boer war with a football stand being refered to as the Kop. Surely we can be better than making these type of connections with the football club.
Aye - let's pretend that there is no issue at all with anything that has a military connection etc in this town
I'll make a firm prediction that that stand will not be getting referred to as 'The Kop' by City supporters. The Jungle idea mentioned above is a good alternative name in my view, with a nod to the stadium's past. I just can't see the Kop name sticking, and as someone else posted - it was probably more TL describing how he'd like the stand to function for the club.
Anyways - everyone knows that there's no kops in the Brandywell on matchdays......
Think you'll find there is
Aye. But you won't find them
I'd be curious to know if there really are plain-clothes 'observer' cops at every home match, as has been said in the past. Maybe it's a legal requirement that there has to be a presence or something. And if so - is that why the PSNI is having recruitment problems ?

100% that's the official name.
I think the other references (Kop, Jungle, the Brandywell Road end, the miracle ... etc are just people having a bit of fun)
If he wins us the league it'll be the TL stand.

The extra turnstiles are a welcome addition.
Exciting times to think that the MF stand etc could follow in the not to distant future.
There'll still be some boys complaining we only have 3 stands...

Good to see the new Kop end suck in two goals Stevie. You never know what name will stick with an effect like that...

Everyone around me was complaining about the pitch being dark last night.
Got to agree with them, although I think it's to do with the new North Stand lights being so bright, makes it look worse. I remember thinking same when the MF Stand opened too.
But look at the coverage on YouTube, it does look bad. Need to get new bulbs into the floodlights.

There looks like a massive dark patch in the centre of the new stand.
Thought that's because the floodlights are lighting up the two corners through the glass sides.
Its a work in progress so im sure that's the whole point of these test games etc.
New lights eventually will sort it and a few teaks in the meantime.

The lighting does look strange on camera, didn't notice it in the ground last night.

It was very obvious from the Mark Farren Stand. I had said before that the Southend Stand is one of the worst views in the ground at night because of how dark it is.The lights needed updating when we moved back to Brandywell in 2018. There are certain corners of the pitch that may as well be blind spots.
