I don't need an education on Spion Kop and it's relevance in the Boer War, but cheers for that anyway.
Jeez lad - you're being very precious here. This is a public forum, where posts get read by multiple people. You may be a Professor of the Boer War, but not everyone else is - so it made sense to clarify what the issue was for all readers rather than talk about something indirectly/mysteriously. Apologies if that put your nose out of joint.

I think the Apprentice Boys would disagree with your analysis of the current day significance of the Derry walls.
I made no mention of the
significance of the walls to anyone. Just that they're not seen as belonging to one or other community here. Which is just a straightforward statement of fact.
IfYouTolerateThis wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 9:02 am And the fact the walls are incorporated on the club badge perhaps indicates how Derry supporters place less emphasis on the British military significance of the walls... in the same way that they would not reference the British in the Boer war with a football stand being refered to as the Kop. Surely we can be better than making these type of connections with the football club.
Aye - let's pretend that there is no issue at all with anything that has a military connection etc in this town
I'll make a firm prediction that that stand will not be getting referred to as 'The Kop' by City supporters. The Jungle idea mentioned above is a good alternative name in my view, with a nod to the stadium's past. I just can't see the Kop name sticking, and as someone else posted - it was probably more TL describing how he'd like the stand to function for the club.
Anyways - everyone knows that there's no kops in the Brandywell on matchdays......
