Re: Shamrock Rovers v Derry City Match Thread
Mullan clipped him. He didn’t mean it but he caught him.
Accidentally, but he still stopped them from a potential quick break. Harsh yes, but I think it was a yellow.
My question is this - why is Connelly giving the ball away in a dangerous position leaving us open to a counter attack? We don’t help ourselves sometimes.
They went down to 10 and yet we sit back and they were dictating the play. We probably should have stepped it up and switched away from 5-2-3 quicker.

Tame, Insipid Anaemic. Duffy only threat going forward. Getting increasingly harder to watch.

Derry played for a draw and got a draw.
So on that basis they achieved their objective.
Season still hasn’t taken off.
Last year we would have lost that game 2 or 3 nil.

You think that's a yellow then ye may give up watching football. He tries to get out of the way. If there's yellows for that teams would be finishing games with 5 men. There's no doubt it was to even it upmarcoloco wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:27 pm Mullan clipped him. He didn’t mean it but he caught him.

Same stuff as the rest of our games. Slow play, pass sideways and backwards, create very little and completely reliant on duffy.
Haven't seen rovers play that bad against us in years, were there for the taking.

Some negative bustards on this site . Derry played well tonight , best game of the season....we actually looked like a team 2nd half .As much as I like Mark as a person & leader ...he has been a weak link and not the same player since his injury.
We were much better shape 2nd half...Micky Duffy has been our main man this season, he only showed glimpses the last few seasons.
Boyce done well when he came on and patten did a fair bit of running. Referee got it wrong with mullan ... we just need to be more clinical... 2 home games now and new stand ...Hopefully Tiernan starting to find his best 11 .. Doherty done well tonight, sorry to see him injured .. im happier tonight. I can't remember the last time we went to tallaght and rovers didn't lay a glove on us ...I would have loved a win ..
No need for negativity...not a bad result ,performance from tallaght.

We were defensively sound but saying we played well when we created next to nothing going forward is something I cannot agree with! The period when we had a man advantage, Rovers were still the more dominant team.
A point is good enough result but how it was earned gives me no greater confidence that we're putting things together.

So you seen no improvement from sligo which was a brutal performance but a valuable 3 points ....Nige92 wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 11:37 pm We were defensively sound but saying we played well when we created next to nothing going forward is something I cannot agree with! He tried to get out of the way but he didn’t and he stood on him causing him to fall over. Accidental or not, had he not stopped him they probably would have had a goal scoring chance seeing that Conlley was too far up the pitch and there was a break on.fergal wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 11:01 pm

If it was against Derry we’d be calling for a card. Harsh as it was (as there was no intent) he had to go.
Match stats saying we had 33% possession with 1 shot on target

For anyone seeing positives out of that game tonight, it just shows how bad we have been this season.
Its a very low bar.
I suppose a draw at Tallaght is always a decent result, but very insipid stuff again. Don't see much progress.

I agree with Fergal , this guy must be the only Derry city supporter that felt Mullan deserved red card ....no words ,marcoloco wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 10:27 pm Mullan clipped him. He didn’t mean it but he caught him.

Tbh I'm struggling to see it. If anything it's further cementing the feeling that we won't be able to compete with the better teams in the league over the season. We can sit in a keep things tight but at the moment I don't see us being able to consistently win games through dominating the ball and creating numerous chances. I think we'll be relaying on finishing the 1-2 decent chances we get per game. The creativity is severely lacking beyond Duffychosen1 wrote: Fri Mar 28, 2025 11:40 pm So you seen no improvement from sligo which was a brutal performance but a valuable 3 points ....

Support your team , they did well tonight . Didn't win ....Had the better chances but weren't beat away in Tallaght . Good point ,,, Negativity gets u nowhere .Nige92 wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 1:43 amTbh I'm struggling to see it. Re: Shamrock Rovers v Derry City Match Thread
Point away to Rovers is a good point.
The performance was poor, although 2nd half better than the 1st, neither halves anything to get excited about.
Standard of officiating shocking. Tbh, from replays it was very difficult to be sure McGinty handled outside the box. The decision was guesswork.
As stated previously, Mullen DID make contact, but it was abundantly obvious he was trying to avoid the player. A decision I think made to even things up. But beyond the 2 reds, the number of free kicks given is shocking. No flow to yet another game.

Re: Shamrock Rovers v Derry City Match Thread
Didn't deserve to lose but didn't do enough to win. Pleasing enough performance I thought although there is a nagging sense two points were left behind. Rovers were poor enough I thought or maybe Derry contained them well.
Lopes roared out to get first yellow and then jumped back up straight away and second was very soft. Thought the ref was bad all night, he basically waited for Rovers to have one last attack before blowing up.
For the period when Derry were a man up, don't think three centre halves were needed although the attacking subs at half time were positive to see. Derry seem to have tightened up at the back but offer very little going forward. Doherty injury was at far side so hard to see, Winchester limped off a little. It will be good to have Dummigan back.
