Seriously?
I'd agree with the other 3 but big Cian had a habit of forgetting his lines when in on goal... Tallaght in the Europa league springs to mind...

Jeez that's a lot of Bad Habitsmokendismucker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:20 pm Joe Thompson had a habit of going to sleep for long periods. Big Cian had a habit of missing big chances and the touch of an elephant. Brandon had a habit of losing possession and giving away goals and Aki had a big habit of only scoring 1 in 8 chances. Wouldn’t swap any of our current players for any of these guys…

We replaced Cian with Hoban TBF.marcoloco wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 10:34 amCourse you wouldn't, Ruaidhrímokendismucker wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 7:20 pm Joe Thompson had a habit of going to sleep for long periods. The point i'm making is that we've released players that has weakened us as a team. Transfer dealings are more than just incomings. We've shipped out several players (often needlessly) that offered us something different and they wern't replaced or bettered.
I accept that Cian was not a starter but he had a presence about him and is similar to other squad players in that role who chip in with the odd important goal. So yes, out of the 4 mentioned he's the weakest link.

Ok. So Joe Thompson was replaced by O’Reilly. Aki by Whelan. Cian by Mullen. Jamie by Hoban.
Thompson was a box to box player that chipped in with a fair amount of goals and being a few years older added experience. OReilly has been excellent 'this season'. For me arguably our best or most consistent player this season. Joe left us last January.mokendismucker wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 1:41 pmOk. So Joe Thompson was replaced by O’Reilly. Aki by Whelan. The only argument is Brandon, who was and is prone to losing possession in vulnerable areas and who wanted away anyway. He couldn’t get into the first 11 then and he still wouldn’t now.
Doubt it, not from the start anyway.Keyser Soze wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 2:31 pm Whelan is on the verge of returning too.
If he stays fit for the remainder of the season, he could be like a new signing for the all important run in.
Would RH play him and Hoban together?
Whelan should be back on the pitch again very soon. If he sees out the rest of this season in good health, and does the job we all think he can for us, we'd be mad to not keep hin on for at least one more year. Spending 2yrs waiting on him to recover just to release him when he is would be madness.marcoloco wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 2:05 pm Whelan has not worked out. We bought a player recovering from a serious injury, give him a 2 yr contract and then the poor lad is back on the treatment table with the same injury. It was a risk that didn't pay off. A fantastic player when match fit but no good if he's injured all the time. Missed most of last season and this season and will likely depart in October as we can't risk giving him another 2 yrs.
A pay as you play contract could work otherwise it would be mad to offer him a contract. 2 x serious injuries in 3 years - to the same knee. Anyone that has suffered a ACL will know that 1 is bad. 2 unthinkable. The body then compensates and you start to get niggles elsewhere. I just think its too big of a risk when those wages could be spent elsehwere. We already have Fats who is injury prone. Harkin another one. You can't just continue with 3 or 4 of the clubs top earners popping their heads in the door from time to time.stevebradley wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 12:22 pmWhelan should be back on the pitch again very soon. Very unlucky. but high risk signings moving forward as a result.brandyball wrote: ↑Wed Jun 26, 2024 7:22 pm It's not the players fault they got injure and it would be poor form by the club to ditch players without giving them a chance to.make a full recovery. Jackie and Colm Whelan were oarticulary unlucky.
