the rumor going around was that the greyhound company was winding down. Doubt it to be honest but either way, there is a track going along with a pitch in the showgrounds & some sort of stand facility.

How much consultation does it take to lay a football pitch?
Is P.O.D preparing us for the worst with this statement?

A few thoughts have struck me about this issued statement that isn't clarified and I am sure there are others here wondering the same points.

1) "Unfortunately we have been informed that the tender process can’t begin due to continued consultation on the project." What is the issue within the consultation holding up the execusion of the work on the pitch/ stadium? Is it the contracters? Materials? Issues with residents? Council? Doggy men? Who or what.

2) Why is it projected that this consultation will hold up the project 12 months and why can it not be resolved in a faster scale?

3) Who is consulting on this issue holding up the development?

4) I was under the impression that the pitch was going to be 4G and not 3G, is this a misprint or a misunderstanding on my part or POD's?

5) "Derry City FC will be left out of pocket if games are to be played possibly in Ballybofey with lower numbers attending our games !This will affect the budget for next season which will not help our challenging for European football." Is Ballybofey the only venue the club is looking at and are local facilities such as Riverside and Maginn Park viable to keep the games as local as possible?

6) I assume I would need point three answered for this to be relevant but is there anyone we as supporters can annoy/badger to get this moving along?

You can ask all you like but one thing to be sure of with derry city is you wont get answers

Are P.O.D's hands tied in this? He was quick to take legal action against Stormont for Project Kelvin. Now he's up against DCC and MLA's who are supposed supporters of the club. Does he have the balls to challenge this? Should he throw down the challenge if this is delayed again to vacate the Brandywell and let the weeds grow and move to (say) Maginn park, Finn Park or even Celtic Park ? Time has long past (As the U4D crowd say) for waiting anymore.

DCC are fond of handing land to the GAA in the city. DCC has no fucking interest in investing in the Brandywell, Why dont they hand it over to the club for a nominal fee?

Theres either something else at play here or DCC are more fucking impotent than I thought.

Celtic Park should be considered... has the GAA been approached ?
Maginn Park should be considered... would the FAI let us use it ?

People slag Eddie Mahon and his idea for fort george site... Imagine if someone like the Simpson family that run the Bowling Alley had built a purposeful stadium that could house 6000 supporters there with a 4g pitch and offered Derry City the chance to rent it on a fortnightly basis ?
Pipe dream ? maybe but one things for sure... If Derry City had an opportunity like this and moved out of the Brandywell the council would be out of pocket by a huge margin... I for one would love to see the crying start from the other side of the fence while supporters who have suffered for so long would be giving the wanker sign from inside the ground and telling them to take their oil...

frustrating but not really surprising. summed up pretty well by greengo. anything which politicians are involved in which benefits derry and the northwest is normally doomed to never get off the ground (don't hold your breath for the a5/a6). add derry city council into the mix and it's doomed exponentially. the fact that they have presided as landlords of the decrepid brandywell for so many years says it all really, they really must have a brass neck to be associated with the state of it.
i'd agree that dcfc should look at other options with a view to walking away from it. there would be short(ish) term pain but long term we'd be better off.

on another note, maybe i'm being a bit naive but why can't the development of new stands and facilities go ahead keeping the existing pitch and laying the new 3/4g later?
