The board and a head of or director of football are 2 totally different things. The board should be looking at the direction of the club on and off the pitch. However they should appoint a manager to run the team and another person to look after the future development of the team. They have appointed Tiernan Lynch to win matches and bring success to the club. The problem we have, and it was the same with Higgins, is that Tiernan is trying to do both jobs and it's too big for one person. This is why Higgins spent the last 18 months of his tenure buying players to win the league now. Lynch has done the same. You can understand why, he is going to be judged on winning the league, cup or qualifying for Europe. He might be here for a year or 2 if that doesn't happen. So, why should he be thinking about developing the next Farren, Coyle, McClean etc for the next manager or the one after that. This is where the likes of a McGlynn type figure come in. They assist the manager and help build the club outside of the day to day coaching and winning matches on a Friday night. By the way I'm not certain McGlynn is the person for this role. We have said it for years, the club should be appointing 4 or 5 full time staff members to build a solid foundation.

Head of Academy
Head of Operations
Director of Football
Head of Sales, Marketing, Merchandise
Head of Media

Parts of all the above are being done by volunteers currently and it's unfair on all of them that they have all this responsibility and a day job too.

With a catchment area the size of ours, Derry, Donegal, Tyrone it's an embarrassment that the last player that has come through to the first team and remained a starter is Ronan Boyce and he made his debut almost 6 years ago.....

What role did Paddy McCourt have (before he stepped aside)?

Was it head of youth development of something similar and has there been a like for like replacement since he left?

Amen to this.

Otherwise the regenerative process of renewing the whole squad every year will continue. When winchester, boyce etc move on in a year or two we’l be back to square one!

Pats, Rovers etc flying off the field.
