Vinny Cunningham
I'm sure most of you have probably heard the devastating news today that Vinny Cunningham has sadly passed away.
Vinny was one of the original moderators on this site since its inception in 2004. I got to know Vinny through our love of Derry City and later music. We used to do player interviews, first on MP3 recorded in my kitchen which he would take away and convert and then we would upload so fans around the world could listen in and hear which player liked bourbon or custard creams or who was the 'longest' in the shower. I remember the first time I innocently asked this and we had to stop recording as he burst out laughing mid tape.
Vinny then suggested taking it up a notch and doing video interviews. We didnt do that many but I do remember the last one we did was of former manager Ruaidhri Higgins with a backdrop of the derrycitychat.com flag behind him.
In recent years we would still bump into each other at games and send the odd text now and again about different ideas but the recordings never really continued. When I heard the news earlier today I was deeply shocked and saddened by it.
Vinny was an all round gentleman. He loved his TV work. He loved helping others. He loved the Undertones. He loved Derry City FC but most importantly he loved his family, wife Deborah, son Niall and daughter Orla and being a granda to their kids.
A proud Creggan man and devoted fan of the club he'll be sorely missed around the ground. I hope this small post has done him justice. In the grander scheme of things I can only hold him in my prayers and thoughts and pass on my condolences to his surrounding family and friends.
As Karen said on FB... Derry City fans dont die, they just get a better seat... Rest in peace my friend... RAWA

A huge shock when I heard he had died. Taken far too young. RIP Vinny.
