Drogheda Utd v Derry City FAI Cup Final Match Thread

Post by TenaciousDee »

The league season has been disappointing, especially given the high hopes we had, but now we have something to look forward to—a day out in Dublin. While morale might be low, this is still an occasion we can enjoy as supporters. It’s a chance to travel to Dublin with friends, maybe stay overnight to make it even more memorable, or even turn it into a family day out. For some kids, this might be their very first final, and if you think back to your own first final day, you know just how special that can be. I hope everyone has a fantastic day.

This thread is for sharing your plans, predictions, team news, and post-match reactions. I’ve been working on interviews and match build-up content over the past few weeks, and I’ll share these as they’re released.

100% Dee.

Let's make it a great day out. Get it over the line and regroup.

Always a great experience to get to the final and enjoy the occasion.

On a lighter note, I see the long range forecast for next weekend is for dry, mild, settled weather.

Hopefully adds to the day out.

Join Dee Curran as he takes a nostalgic journey back to the 2002 FAI Cup final with former Derry City and Republic of Ireland striker, David Kelly.

In what was his final match as a professional footballer, David relives the drama of his last game and the intense lead-up, sharing stories about the challenge of just getting to the match, the quality of Liam Coyle’s winning goal, and reflecting on a missed chance of his own.

Known for his honest approach, David gives a candid assessment of his time at the club and his personal impact.

Be sure to follow Drive 105 Match Night Live across social media for updates as we provide extended coverage on Derry City’s journey to the FAI Cup Final against Drogheda United, coming up this Sunday, November 10th.

James O'Toole caught up with Mark Connolly who is a native of GAA dominant town of Clones. This Sunday though his friends and family will be switching sporting allegiances.

In this fun episode, Drive 105’s Dee Curran visits Paul Martin’s Menswear to catch up with owner Paul Cooley and check out the exclusive Derry City FAI Cup Final match day suits! Dee dives into Paul’s excitement for Cup day, hears his thoughts on Sunday’s big match against Drogheda United, and takes a trip down memory lane as Paul shares his first and favorite FAI Cup Final memories. Will Dee be able to score himself a suit? Watch and find out!

Drive 105 Match Night Live extends our thanks to Paul Martin Menswear for their support throughout the 2024 season, including our #RoadToTheFAICupFinal content.

Later on I think we are releasing my interview with Brian Maher too. But, if you can support Paul Martin Menswear in anyway, custom or following them on social media, I would appreciate it as they paid for me to go to Drogheda yesterday to record content from their media day. More on that later.

Fair play to you Dee.

Fresh, alternative coverage of the final which has been apparent throughout the season in your dynamic coverage on Drive of the games [before, during & after]

Doesn't always get a nod, but it's appreciated from you, and the Drive team.

Was just thinking that too as I read Dee's post.

Fair play to Drive105 for putting the effort in on the cup final, and all season round.

Thanks very much to you both. A lot of work has gone into this week from us going as far back as the Friday night we played Bohs at the Brandywell in October. Now we are looking forward to the final itself.

A few hours ago I saw that Kev Moore announced our Podcast out on Friday but we have a few more interviews to release between then and now.

In case you didn't see it, here is the interview with Brian Maher. https://audioboom.com/posts/8602655-it- ... rian-maher

Seem to be plenty of seats available in the AVIVA for the final but ticketmaster are playing games by not allowing tickets to be sold in sections where only a few have been sold. Any idea what’s going on?

It's just common sense. No point maximising event management costs by having fans scattered randomly all over the place. Keep everyone toegther - easier to manage/steward, and looks better on TV too

Maybe I should have explained it better. I know it’s sense to pack people in sections to save clearing up etc but they have planked people sparsely in some sections and when you try to book tickets for those same sections the system does not allow you to do it.

Team news from during the week was that some players are carrying injuries of some kind with both Hoban and McEleney needing checks. I reckon McEleney will play a role in the game whether it is from the start of the bench, but Hoban is a curious case. I reckon he will be named on the bench but if Derry doesn't need to "go for it" he'll not come on. Then again, with this being the last game of the year he (Hoban) may want to go for broke and feature as much as possible.
