ODonnell is not an upgrade in Higgins. I'd rather Joey OBrien from.shels

Re: New manager
For a pretty demanding set of fans, the bar is being set very low.
If we're going to replace Ruaidhri, then there's no point in getting someone with no experience (Darren Kelly) or someone with only a short track record (John Russell). We should be looking for someone who can continue what Ruaidhri has started - two 2nd place finishes in a row and a title challenge up to the last two weeks of the season. John Caulfield has shown similar at Cork (a number of 2nd place finishes vs an outstanding Dundalk team, and has also won the league and some cups, and has progressed in Europe). He has improved Galway in the four years he's been there and would no doubt enjoy our large budget and stadium expansion plans. We'll also have to convince any prospective manager that the Northwest is a lovely place, and Ollie will be able to sell that to him if they come as a package deal.

The fella in his 60s who won 9 league titles in a weak league when the club he was at had a huge in-built financial advantage - and who after a promising start at Ballymena then achieved nothing afterwards before effectively retiring from the game?

Just say it. We came 4th. Don't dress it up. Every season the points tally lower than the season before.PauliAlonso wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 2:32 pm For a pretty demanding set of fans, the bar is being set very low.

The Ruaidhri and Rennie partnership was great. Since Rennie departed we've been in steady decline and now fans would welcome anyone with fresh ideas and contacts.
I'm keeping an open, but realistic, mind. Ruaidhri had no experience when he joined us so on that level you'd not have given him a job.

In league of ireland terms we're an attractive club with a lot to offer. Decent stadium, good support and a big budget.

Re: New manager
Again with the points tally. We could have a lower points tally for each of the next three years and still win the league each time. It's a ridiculous argument. That you keep running to it says it all.marcoloco wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 3:43 pmJust say it. We came 4th. Don't dress it up. As for Ruaidhri's experience when he took over: context. We were dead bottom. We could have given you the job and nobody would've said anything against it. We've had three good seasons now and should be handing the reins to a manager who can carry that on, not start from scratch and cross our fingers that someone who's had a successful three-month period can be our Messiah.

I thought that the managers contract was up at the end of this season (the 3yr project often mentioned) .
Considering the chairman appears to be a fan, it is probably more than likely he will be there next season.
And bringing Fats back for another season on massive wages. To sit on the bench for most of it, and have next to no impact on games.

Thankfully it's not our responsibility.Greengo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 9:53 pm Now that I've got your attention
A lot of people are calling for the head of Ruaidhri Higgins. A lot has been discussed on this forum about reasons why. So tell me your suggestions to replace him and how they can take this team forward.
You cant mention Higgins in your reply or why we failed etc etc... I just want to know who could take over the helm if and when he leaves...
n.b. Ruaidhri is still the Derry City manager and at the moment there are no plans to replace him. I just want to gauge who people think could come in

And we wonder why we have only won 3 league titles. Our chairman has a bit of money in case you didn't notice Will you be offering a suggestion for manager or will you just be telling everyone why they are wrongstevebradley wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 3:14 pmThe fella in his 60s who won 9 league titles in a weak league when the club he was at had a huge in-built financial advantage - and who after a promising start at Ballymena then achieved nothing afterwards before effectively retiring from the game?

Re: New manager
All properly run clubs should have an idea of who they want as their next manager.
I would go for McLaughlin or Kevin Doherty. I don't know enough about other candidates. I'd guess Brian Barry Murpjy would have higher ambitions.

If that's the case, I suspect we'll be looking for a load of new season ticket hokders instead.dcfc_jp_1989 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 7:48 pm We might not be looking for a new manager after all

Especially now that the new stand has completely removed the 'rarity value' in getting a Season Ticket. Sokld out games will no longer be the norm moving forwards, and are likely to be fairly rare instead.
Surely the Board wouldn't be so out of touch with ordinary fans to think there is any benefit or value in perrsisting with the current busted flush?

A new contract would shift the pressure from the manager onto POD and the board.
