Trouble at Dery-Shels game

There doesn't seem to be any mention on here of the scenes during and at the end of the Shels match on Friday.

The club is almost certainly going to be hit with hefty fines for a number of incidents - including a barrage of bottles etc thrown at Shel's players. Plus flares bucked onto the plastic pitch, which risks making the surface even worse for ourselves.

Some young lad got carried off by stewards as well, with what looked like a damaged (broken) leg ?

Again - it was the usual suspects involved. The self-styled ultra/republicans. Yet will the club do anything aboiut it - despite knowing who many of them are etc? History tells us not.

There was at least one kid weariong a balaclava at the game, and then racing off down Lone Moore Road afterwards to look for trouble. He did the same thing when we played Rovers. Why is the club tolerating anyone being masked inside the stadium?

We have a real problem here with a bunch of wee scrotes who are genuinely more interested in being a poor shadow of Millwall than they are in the club or the football. And Derry City appears to be doing little or nothing to address it. It's genuinely damaging us financially and reputationally. Expect them to cause problems this Sunday if they can find a way to do so. And they have the cheek to ask ordinary fans to donate money to them for 'displays'

Flares? I didn't see this from our fans, only the shels fans who were allowed onto the pitch [!] On that note, DCFC not being able to control a few hundred Shels fans and keep them in their section, and off our hoem pitch, was a joke, and could've led to a much greater disturbance.

I saw at least 3 (not very effective) flares on the pitch thrown from our end (the terrace next to Mark Farren Stand). There was somoene on the pitch with a water-based fire extinguisher trying to put the first one out for about 30secs until he realised it wasn't going to work (the fire brigade use sand). 2 more were then thrown shortly afterwards.

Agree that the stewarding of the Shels end was poor. A pitch invasion from there was always likely if they won, and we didn't have enough stewards over that end to deal with it. They seemed to think they could just put out big metal fences to curtail it ?

The sad reality is that as a club we are not in control of what happens inside our stadium during games. If anything other than a tiny number of people want to cause problems, they appear able to do so with impunity. If anyoje goes onto the pitch, fro example, they're usually just put back into the crowd again - rather than being removed from the stadium. Have we banned anyone in recent years? Other cliubs make it known publicly when they do. We seem to operate in a world of silence/mystery.

Agree. I did when they were looking for funds ahead of the 2022 final - but not this time (and never again). I'm not funding plastic hooligans no matter what great ideas they think they have for a display.

The metal barriers were not to curtail a pitch invasion they were to create an area for the presentation

These young trouble makers is a big problem fo DC because what do you do DC can't control these hooligans and would you expect them to do it ,what do these brats want to achieve behave themselves or forget about football at Brandywell ,this is a big problem for Derry City and not of their own making

Use to be respected adults who kept a bit of order but who is going to stick their neck out to overcome the anti football youths who are taking advantage of non policing missing around matches. The children involved, hassled the Garda on their way to the Aviva firing off rockets and bangers at them. By the amount of flares smuggled in by both sets, the stewarding just wasn’t up to dealing with the problem. The board can’t be expected to sort out trouble makers. I have no intention of taking my grandchildren to the Brandywell - I think they would have better terracing experience in Celtic park. The spat of bother has to have a parental influence which can be see in a lot of pupil disruption in schools as well.e
