Re: 2025 SQUAD
Cheers for clearing up a couple of players. I was convinced Connolly and Boyce were out of contract.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
I think it's common knowledge that we will likely lose Maher and O'Reilly.
So need to find a good keeper.
As for the Out Of Contract players, only other 2 I would try to keep are Coll and Whelan.

Is Tadhg Ryan a viable replacement for Mayer?Keyser Soze wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 7:13 pm I think it's common knowledge that we will likely lose Maher and O'Reilly.

Wisdom (for his experience), Coll because he never lets us down, and a pay as you play deal for Whelan and McEleney could possibly work.
I think the rest will be off.

Connolly has played enough games to trigger an extension & according to transfermarkt Boyce is here until November 2025TenaciousDee wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 7:01 pm Cheers for clearing up a couple of players. I was convinced Connolly and Boyce were out of contract.

Jackie is Scheduled to return in January. We also are rumoured to have a pre contract with a lad George Marsh who we loaned to Larne due to visa/fai clearance issues in July.brandyball wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 8:46 pmAny word on wee Jackie?barry wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 8:40 pm Brian Maher - will likely leave for Rovers or England

Re: 2025 SQUAD
I'd imagine whelan can't wait to get out of Derry. The pitch has hampered him big time and has cost him two serious injuries and not playing consistently has hampered his career.
In the small amount of time I've seen him he looks a good player, always busy and looking to get shots at goal. Think all the Dublin clubs will be after him.

Just thinking the same. With his injury record he’ll be wanting to avoid any plastic surfaces. probably the right thing for both sides to part company. Very risky signing given his knee. If he does leave wish him all the best.Paddydcfc2010 wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 9:20 pm I'd imagine whelan can't wait to get out of Derry. Was it not 1 serious injury?Paddydcfc2010 wrote: Sat Oct 26, 2024 9:20 pm I'd imagine whelan can't wait to get out of Derry. The pitch has hampered him big time and has cost him two serious injuries and not playing consistently has hampered his career.

He was recovering from an ACL when we bought him, so he had already injured the knee?
Then he aggravated the injury on the plastic pitch. So that was the first attributable to the astro.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
Would def keep Whelan- hopefully he thinks he can do a job for us next season and prove to himself and the rest of the league that he can be a top player.
There's about 4-5 others under contract that I wouldn't be too disappointed if they left. Big rebuild job for whoever the manager Is.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
Whelan had all the promise to become the best forward in the league prior to his injuries, it's a real shame that we didn't get to see much of him. My worry is that he goes and fulfils his potential elsewhere. Would love to see him kept on but with Mullan/Hoban signed up for another season and a terrible pitch, why would he?
We need to do our best to keep Patching, I know he take a lot of flack but I think he's one of our most talented players.
Fats will get another contract but I suspect he'll continue to miss more than he plays.
Hard to see how we go into next season in a better place than we leave this one.

I’d also like to see another striker. I felt that we’re not scoring because we have no one to hold the ball up. No one to get on the end of crosses. We just revert to long range shots with limited joy.

Re: 2025 SQUAD
What has he brought this season? Not very much is my opinion - it's all very good having talent but of you don't show it it's a waste of a jersey. He used to score the odd free kick but even that has disappeared.Nige92 wrote: Sun Oct 27, 2024 12:03 am

Re: 2025 SQUAD
There's frustrating aspects to his game but I think he can bring bits of quality that others don't. He helps us keep possession and can find clever passes. Personally, I think he does a lot of work that doesn't show up as goals/assists but without him we'd have really struggled to move the ball through midfield.
