Derry City v Shamrock Rovers Match Thread

Post by TenaciousDee »

Another big match at the Brandywell tomorrow night with a big crowd expected. I watched Rovers on Monday night and felt that they were lucky in victory, but sometimes you need that. Fingers crossed we approach tomorrow as we did Saturday.

All predictions, team news and reaction below. If you can't make it it is live on RTE2, BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105.

A lot of people hoping we can replicate the performance versus Shels but honestly I cannot see it. Rovers are a better team in my opinion and are rounding into form. I would be worried about the mobility of our defence versus their attack. I suspect they'll have the majority of the ball and the majority of chances. We have to hope we take the ones we get.

If you offered me a draw now I'd take it. If Rovers win, I'd back them to go on and win the title.

Join us tonight on Drive 105 Match Night Live for full match coverage of Derry City vs. Shamrock Rovers, from 7 pm to 10 pm. The familiar trio of Eddie Seydak, Stephen McClelland, and myself, along with Paul in the studio, will bring you all the action and in-depth analysis.

Before kickoff, we’ll dive into discussions and interviews, including:

Derry City Manager Ruaidhri Higgins in conversation with Packie Cooke. https://audioboom.com/posts/8573926-rua ... T2bqWRR3tg

Barry Murphy, former Shamrock Rovers goalkeeper and LOI pundit, gives his take on where the title race will end up as he chats with me.

Michael Duffy shares his thoughts with Lisa Crampsie on the importance of Saturday’s Cup win over Shelbourne and how he’s managing a physically demanding season.

Andre Wisdom reflects on the experience of chasing a league and cup double, the mindset the squad needs, and a surprising encounter with a current City player during his Liverpool Academy days.

Catch all the action on Drive 105 at 105.3FM or DAB, whether you're at home, work, or on the go. Join the conversation on Twitter/X – we’d love to hear from you!

Consistency is what wins leagues.

A draw is not the end of the world but a defeat would likely see Rovers finish above us.

No pressure. Any win will do.

If Shels beat Galway, I think this is a must win tonight.

A positive first half performance, good intensity without creating any great chances. Shame that we're going in a goal down but this isnt over yet. Rovers may that extra bit of quality when it counts so far.

Agree. Good battling performance by Derry but with no end product or focal point. Not really hurting them and Rovers using their experience to sit deep and absorb the pressure. Then they hit us on the break showing a bit of quality where it matters most.

Not over yet though!

A deserved point and another good performance. Are we starting to click? That goal was huge!! A helping hand from Galway too. What a run in there's going to be...

After 3 big penalty shouts the home advantage paid off.

Lucky there’s no VAR in LOI.

Out of jail and now were looking good.

That hand ball penalty gets given for rovers in tallaght. Was a dive by mceleney but we deserve a bit of luck.

In our own hands now with shels losing at Galway. Looking forward to drogheda next week.

Enjoyed Ruaidhrí's interview after the match, had to stop himself explaining why he would love VAR in the LOI in case he got into trouble :D

Can you not just enjoy a result for once. Go on, try it and see. You’ve a big dark cloud hanging over you all year. Not enough shots, not enough shots on target, too many sideways passes, sold too many Derry men. Cheer up. We have a great shot at winning a league title. What more do you want???

There you go again. Big dark cloud. Some useless stat about failing to score in the first half bla bla bla.

Who cares? We are where we are and in with a great shout of winning a league title. That’s brilliant isn’t it? Come on, admit it.

Here’s a useful stat for you though. We are joint top scorers in the league.
