All the more reason to scout good local players from the north and not discard them and bring in a load of unknowns from across the water. The team is unrecognisable again with lots of short term deals and it’s not getting any better.TenaciousDee wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 8:08 pmFactor in, if Dublin based or surrounded areas players are free to pick a team in the league, why would they move north? $h£l$ are an attractive prospect because players want to play for Damien Duff. Ditto with Pat's and Kenny, no matter where they finish this year. Players may choose Rovers because of the European Run, the prospect to win trophies and Money. Dublin based players don't want to move north because in Derry 'there is nothing to do' in comparison to Dublin so it comes down to money. You are paying inflated wages on so-so players.Keyser Soze wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 6:48 pm How will we compete with them for players in the next season or two, unless we either win and league and end up in a euro group stage ourselves, or Phil gets the cheque book out!

I don't see anything in Wisdom which wasn't available in Boyce.

Agreed.
I can only imagine what a good manager would get out if Boyce. Didn’t he get 7 goals one season not so long ago?
A real disgrace how he’s been treated.

Re: Squad 2024
I personally don't buy into the idea that players are being treated badly.
I do think that the management and coaching team are making lots of poor judgement calls on players that we are releasing and signing.
So can anyone tell me how we go about scouting our signings?
Is it all based on who's available at a certain time or do we have a list of players that we are actively scouting and pursing and waiting for the right time to make a move?
Do we identify players thinking they'd fit our system etc etc - or is it a simple as saying we need a right back and can pay him X per week. Who's available on some list for that money?
I get the impression its quite basic - someone knows someone that they used to play with X years ago and they are without a club now etc etc.
I'd genuinely love to know the process.

Re: Squad 2024
Well we have 3 ex Man City academy players now, so is that a coincidence? Maybe one recommended the other 2?
Wisdom for me was a completely left field signing. A guy of 31 who hasn't played much football over the last handful of years due to a knife attack, yet we think he could do a better job than an attacking RB we already had who was an U21 international, and a solid performer.
Appreciate that the Brexit issue is limiting who we can sign, as basically the market is now just UK and Ireland, too awkward to sign a European player.

It has always been this way. We've always relied heavily on the manager and his contacts to find us players. For years we have relied on a small number of people to make decisions.
If POD wants to secure the future of the club then he needs to invest money turning the off field structures into a professional structure. We are an amateur set up!

Fair play to Jackie, hope he gets fit and comes back ready for next season. But let's not get carried away. Every week in the Irish League there are six POTMs, and 99% wouldn't get near a LOI starting XI, let alone ours.brandyball wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 1:23 pm On another note wee Jackie doing it for Coleraine

I think he would have done a better job than Diallo and Patching and should have been on front of Davenport in the pecking order.PauliAlonso wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 7:45 amFair play to Jackie, hope he gets fit and comes back ready for next season. Re: Squad 2024
How much has Davenport cost the club to date ?
Say 10 weeks @ £1,500 per week = £15,000
For 45 minutes of football.
I think he is a decent player, but WOW - who made that financial decision ?!
