Roy Coyle Seasons

Post by TenaciousDee »

At the end of the week I am going through the Derry Journal archives to look at some match reports/clips of random seasons or early games I attended. I was too young to remember Roy Coyle's two seasons and I wondered is there any game (good or bad, friendly, league or cup) I should keep an eye out for? Any that had a particularly great story/background?

Home game against Shels which was around Christmas 1991 - Paul Mooney's rocket.

We also hammered them 5-0 away which I think was St Patrick's Day 1992 - think Jody Byrne got a red card for Shels.

Liam Coyle returning to us in summer of 1993.

Look out for Stuart Gauld sit down protest on the pitch which was just before he got sacked - think it would be September/October 1993.

Remember Shels well, their fans shouting "Shelbourne" and us immediately replying "Shel shocked". Great day out and yes St. Patrick's day.

Paul Mooneys goal was an absolute stunner... coming from a full back made it even more special
