Its been 1997 since we won the League and some folk on here are saying not this year. So what about 2027 or later. A large investment has been made in this squad and its time to deliver. No excuses: no drivel: no rigmarole: get on with it. The long suffering and patient fans expect nothing less than the Title this year.
There's several reasons why we wont win the league this year. Even forgetting about the stiff competition we've got a plastic pitch that is hampering any decent football, and a pitch that is responsible for a higher than average number of injuries and not to mentioned that our chances of success are entirely hanging on Hoban's fitness. If he get's injured we're back to last season's predicament of being toothless in attack.

There's no statistical evidence that the pitch is the cause of our problems...even if nobody likes it. Where we've dropped points in the season, has almost equally been split between home and away (11 draws, 6 at home, 5 away; 7 defeats, 3 at home, 4 away). Hoban has played the last 5 years of his career on a home plastic pitch. If he gets injured at the Brandy this year, it will be a coincidence. Our problem (home and away) last year, was scoring. There were too many games when we didn't score...on grass or plastic.

If my memory is right, Daniel Kelly injured his hamstring last year the same night Connolly did his v Dundalk at the Brandywell.

Injuries can happen on grass pitches too! Hoban is 32 now so his fitness (regardless of the surface - plastic or grass) is fundamental to our success.

This is negative nonsense. Dundalk won the league several times on a plastic pitch. And a worse one than ours. And to say our hopes rely on Hoban’s fitness is not only shit but disrespectful to Pat McEleney, Mark Connolly, Brian Maher, Micky Duffy and all the other top class players in our squad.

Catch yourself on. You can't win a league without a goal scorer. Unless you're expecting to play Connelly up front and he bags 20 goals.
