Derry City v $h£l$ Match Thread
Following Bohs' victory over UCD on Thursday past only 5 points separates us in second and $h€l$ in 5th place. Pat's have a game in hand next Monday v Sligo so victory here for City is essential to secure second or third.
Bit early for team news but as it becomes public feel free to post that, your match predictions and post match reactions here.
Online ticket thread can be found here https://www.derrycityfc.net/tickets-min/
If you can't make the match it will be live on the usual outlets; LOITV, BBC Radio Foyle and Drive 105.

Let's hope we play like we did the last time we were in a cup final.

Eugenio, you're an absolute disgrace. We all know the standard of refereeing is below what we want, as it is in every country. The allegations you have made would have tremendous repercussions, if true. Some go for us, some against us. To attack a person like that is shocking. He wouldn't be wrong in taking you to court over it

Eugeno .True, but it would make no odds. We can't score.
Take our 4 games v UCD out of the stats and were in a bad bad way.
We've let people go and brought in others that frankly are bang average at best.
We have a great defence but are hopeless up the park.
We got off the hook tonight and now look like we've done enough for a top 3 finish.
Sooner the season ends the better. It's no fun.

True HIGGS seems to love the possession game , toothless and imo pointless ,certainly goalless , so he would have loved Shels second half .lolmarcoloco wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 11:23 pm Eugeno .True, but it would make no odds. We can't score.

It's modern football, unfortunately. And RH is the epitome of the modern manager.
It's all about stats.
Possession.
Not giving the opposition the ball.
Hold it rather than take a chance.
Playing with no striker.
Changing a possible attack into a backpack to keeper.
We are a tough watch. As mentioned, take out the UCD games and we don't score many goals. It's all about possession, possession, possession. I rarely listen to the managers post match comments, because they are all the same. This season can't end soon enough. It has really petered out badly. So flat. Just like last season too.
We are expanding the ground to accommodate more fans. Keep playing that sort of football, and there will be a lot of empty spaces .

I think we all predicted this game would end in a scoreless draw and like all other games against $h€l$ since they returned to the division it was uneventful. Other than the red card I think the only highlight was Maher's save from Shane Farrell at the near post. I honestly can't remember us having a chance on goal and Kearns being forced into a save.

We had zero shots on target.
Embarrassing.
But I'm sure the manager was pleased with the point.

Just did a quick count of our home games this season, and I may be corrected, but if you take away the 2 ucd games when we scored 10, that leaves 15 games played at home and 16 goals.
Not a great record.

With 10 men it was a good point but before that we were poor. Once again we cant help but play back or sideways passes even when under no pressure. It is a hard watch and with the wind at our backs one would have expected more shots from Patching or Diallo. Higgins has stamped his cautious style of play on the team which allows even average teams time to set up their defence when they lose the ball.
A season that promised so much is finishing with a damp squib.

It's been the same all season. Playing with no strikers and grinding out 1 nils.
Throwing on defenders instead of attackers when at nil nil in home games.
Super cautious football which cost us in the big cup competitions (lost both at home) in which one turned into farce with the keeper having to hit a pen because there was no outfield players on the pitch comfortable with the thought of scoring a goal.
I've said before the manager needs to evolve and adapt his approach. If we had half the budget i'd understand but with the money we spend and the aspirations of the Chairman its not sustainable.
