He's a left wing back - so yep he has taken Danny Lafferty's place in the squad which hopefully frees McJannett up to play all the time as centre half.

Doing a bit of reading, it seems he was played mainly on the left wing at Coleraine but was used as LWB this season at Larne. Good to have that flexibility. As a more ball dominant side I hope we use less 3-5-2 this season, which we seemed to move away from.

I agree that it's a good option to have, particularly against teams that we might be expected to have less of the ball against, in Europe for example.

If you look at the best teams across most leagues, they don't use a 3-5-2 system as I means sacrificing a midfielder/attacker for an extra CB. When you expect to have the ball more, you want more ball playing players on the pitch. 3-5-2 tends to work as more a counter attacking set up imo

That's a fair comment although I would argue a) that's one example, b) they use it in preparation for European ties as they know they're good enough win the league that way c) is it really their optimum lineup in the league(?)

Good luck trying to keep the full squad happy. There's gonna be a lot of players that won't get into the match day squad. It's a strong enough squad but will be interesting to see the first 11 the next few weeks.
