guy on site told me there is a lot of top soil to be removed so that a much lower level is achieved throughout the whole site. I think he included the showgrounds next door

Will take a good few months to remove all that top soil so its becoming pretty obvious why the work on the stadium will take a year when you factor in the new stand, perimeter walls and greyhound track in showgrounds have also to be built. Thanks Kitwe for keeping us updated.

I know its too late to ask! But why could the pitch not have been moved and relaid as stage 1, then the building work on new stand done as stage 2 or is this too logical? This is a risk alright, but with Sinn Fein likely to still be in government after any election it should still be on the cards.

An election would throw everything up in the air, and there would be a good chance of two completely different FM and DFMs afterwards, even if the parties are the same. Having a DFM from and representing Derry hardly moved mountains for the city, so I'm not sure it would change much afterwards tbh.

Just seen McGuinness interviewed on the BBC and he doesn't look or sound well. He's visibly aged about 5-10years in a couple of weeks.

I have been told recently by a reliable source in the republican movement that martin has recently been diagnosed with major heart problems.

One would assume as the work has to be done from "inside out", otherwise the Lone Moor Road would be closed for months.

One would assume as the work has to be done from "inside out", otherwise the Lone Moor Road would be closed for months.

What I mean is that the new pitch "moved" near to Southend stand would have allowed DC to play games while all the LM road right out to existing dugouts could then be worked on building new wall and stand etc. These are 2 separate areas, also changing facilities in the youth club could have been used as temp measure as I think they were for some euro games in the past. All hypothetical, I know, but major clubs build new stands without impacting on the pitch

Given the huge uncertainty around NI politics at the moment, it would be a brave call for anyone to state something like that categorically. There isn't a budget in place for 2017/8 yet, and doesn't look there'll be one for quite a few months at best either. Also - t isn't out of the question that we could end up with a period of direct rule whilst everything sorts itself out, which would probably see funding decisions grind to a halt almost entirely.

A fellow who is working on the Brandwell project that's what he told me ,he said that was the plan last Thursday wheteher thiings could change I do not know.

Yea but phase 1 the work underway now at the brandywell is entirely council funded no money came from stormont it was phase 2 money that was due from stormont. So stormonts part of the deal hasnt started yet so they basically have nothing to honour.

Everything changed on Monday when McGuinness stood down as DFM though. Unallocated funding remains unallocated, and there's no clarity at all on when it will get allocated. Deals done between McGuinness and Robinson will be old news that would probably need to be re-horse-traded for under any new Executive.

With Sinn Fein now talking about not wanting to go back to the way things were in the Executive after any election, it's hard to see things getting resolved any time soon.

In short - there is no Phase II money for Brandywell from Stormont. And no clarity at all at this moment re if and when there will be.
