People complaining about 3g need to remember we don't have much grass for their first half of the season anyway. Also is tye greyhounds not going to showgrounds?

For whatever reason the grass pitch has been in an awful state for the start of each recent season. Not sure why that is. But once people point out how crap it is, the council usually step in. Did we win pitch of the year once a few years ago? Other non-club owned pitches such as turners cross, terryland or tallaght which get used for other games as well don't seem to have that problem.

The winter weather accompanied by the over weight Saturday morning league players playing on it taking chunks out of it wrecks it ! Lol

A Derry & Strabane Council Committee has chosen one of seven options for the redevelopment of the Brandywell Stadium tthis evening.

Sinn Fein, the SDLP and the DUP all agreed to press ahead with Option Three of seven, despite misgivings voiced by Independent Councillor Gary Donnelly.

The Council’s Health and Community Committee was last night presented with the list of options at their monthly meeting in the Guildhall.

Option Three involves proceeding to tender for the entire Brandywell scheme.

As part of this a public advertisement will be put out for providers to run the Greyhound Track.

The report states: “In theory Greyhound racing can take place seven days per week as it will not impact on the running of the football stadium (as it is now within the Showground’s site). Any Greyhound operator will pay a proposed £55 per hour for the hire of the facility. These costs will help cover staff costs, electricity costs, maintenance costs and other operating costs associated with managing the facility.”

Proposing the committee proceed in this way, Sinn Fein Councillor Kevin Campbell said that by this stage there has been numerous consultations as far as six and a half years ago. “There are seven options here for discussion and I would like to make a proposal to accept option three as it accommodates everyone,” he added.

Colr Donnelly however said he had attended a “robust and very frank” meeting recently involving various stakeholders, and that there had been “no consensus”.

Stronger indications this evening that Derry City are favouring Maginn Park over Finn Park in their quest for a temporary home if as expected the redevelopment of Brandywell continues into the new LOI league season proper which is scheduled to start on March 4th.

Rumours are rife that a possible ground share with Finn Harps would be the most viable option but it looks like Inishowen which is more natural hinterland for the Candystripes could get the nod from Derry chairman Philip O'Doherty and his executive.

Interesting that O'Doherty did not rule it out in a number of media interviews this week as well.

What do Derry fans think of this idea? A heap of problems to get around before Maginn could be used for LOI.

We would fill it to the rafters every week so i say it would be a good thing, i remember being to a derry game down there many moons ago might have been around the treble time i think we might have played finn harps and the place was packed

Buncrana much easier and quicker to get to for City fans than Ballybofey, and it's a natural hinterland of support for the team as well.

Hopefully a short stint playing there would gain us a few new supporters locally,

Is it that they want rid of us altogether and just keep the Brandywell for dog racing?

They seem to want a brand new track but still pay peanuts rent like they have been doing for years for the old track. By the way i was just looking passing through the showgrounds to the match on tuesday nite there doesnt look like a lot of room to build a dog track around the showgrounds it will be no were near the length of the original so maybe that is one of their gripes as well

True, and surely in this day and age, there must be some legislation regarding health and safety issues in a sporting arena where there is the possibility of "dog poo" and the associated health hazards. Anybody know a good lawyer. A big claim regarding the "loss of eyesight", to name but one medical condition, will soon sort that out.
