So today we got the shocking figures that the FAI is in debt to its eyeballs.

At least 55mill, and probably worse when the latest accounts are reviewed.

Real fears now for the future of the organisation, the jobs and even the LoI.

Delaney ruined the association, bled it dry and ran it like a private club, his nose in the trough.
(and to think Derry fans were fawning over him in the social club in the past).

Will we even have a league to play in in March?

FAI completely corrupt , now we know it for definite with real accounts published yesterday. Delaney a con man .
Never a better time for clubs to break away and form their own league

Minister Shane Ross, who is refusing to give the FAI the bailout of €18mill that they asked for yesterday, said :

"My guess is that if the FAI goes, the League of Ireland goes the same way," Ross said.

I read somewhere before (years ago mind) that an international team can only compete in their tournaments if it has a functioning national league. Is that still the case?

Correct. same for club side. No FAI = No League / European Football.
